Fabri Fibra's Early Life and Music Journey
Fabrizio Tarducci was born in Senigallia, Italy. He loved music from a young age. He wrote and performed his first song when he was just 17 years old.
In 1995, he made his first demo recording. He then formed a group called Uomini di Mare with DJ Lato. In 1996, they released an underground CD called Dei del mare quest'el gruv. Later, in 1999, Fabri and Lato produced the LP Sindrome di fine millennio. This album featured other artists like El Presidente and his brother Nesli.
After gaining popularity in the underground music scene, Fabri Fibra started performing all over Italy. In 2000, he started his own music label and group called Teste Mobili Records. He also worked with many other Italian rap groups, writing lyrics and adding his voice to their mixtapes.
In 2013, Fabri Fibra worked with Adidas Originals. He helped create a new version of a song with Run-DMC and DJ A-Trak.
Fabri Fibra's Solo Career
First Solo Album: Turbe Giovanili (2002)
In 2002, Fabri Fibra released his first solo album. It was called Turbe giovanili, which means Juvenile Troubles. He wrote and recorded all the lyrics himself. The music was produced by Neffa. A year later, Fabri released Lato e Fabri Fibra, which ended his partnership with Lato and the Uomini di Mare project.
His brother Nesli's album Home and Fabri Fibra's album Mr. Simpatia were both released on 1 September 2004.
Second Album: Mr. Simpatia (2004)
Mr. Simpatia (meaning Mr. Niceness) was Fabri Fibra's second solo album, released in 2004. Most of the music for the songs was created by his younger brother, Nesli Rice. The album's title, Mr. Simpatia, is meant to be ironic. The songs on the album talk about the Italian hip hop world, feelings about society, relationships, and Fabri Fibra's thoughts on his music career.
Breakthrough Album: Tradimento (2006)

After leaving his first record company, Fabri Fibra signed a new deal with a major company called Universal Music. With help from Fish and his brother Nesli, he created Tradimento (meaning "Betrayal"). This album became very successful. His first song from the album, "Applausi per Fibra" ("Applause for Fibra"), was released on 4 April 2006. This song talked about Fabri Fibra's personal experiences and his journey.
Just one week after its release on 6 June 2006, Tradimento became the number one selling album. The last song released from the album was "Idee stupide" ("Stupid Ideas"). Its music video showed Fabri Fibra's journey like a Rocky movie. In 2010, Tradimento was named the second most important album of the decade in Italy in a newspaper poll.
Bugiardo (2008)
Fabri Fibra's next album, Bugiardo, came out on 9 November 2007. The first official song from it, also called "Bugiardo", was released earlier on 15 October 2007. Another song, "La Soluzione" ("The Solution"), came out on 9 November 2007. On 25 April 2008, Fibra released the song “In Italia” with singer Gianna Nannini. This song became a huge hit that summer. It was the most watched music video in Italy in 2008 and was nominated for an award at the MTV Europe Music Awards.
Chi Vuole Essere Fabri Fibra? (2009)
On 10 April 2009, Fabri Fibra released his fifth album, Chi vuole essere Fabri Fibra? (meaning Who Wants to Be Fabri Fibra?). Two songs from this album were "Incomprensioni" (featuring Federico Zampaglione) and "Speak English". "Speak English" talks about the cultural differences between Italy and England. The music video for "Speak English" was filmed in Brighton, where Fibra lived for four years. Another song from the album, "Donna famosa", was included in the soundtrack of the FIFA 10 football video game.
Controcultura (2010)

Starting from 18 February 2010, MTV Italia showed a program called Fabri Fibra: Italy. This show was a docu-drama with five episodes. It showed the lives of young people facing challenges in society. On 4 May 2010, Fibra released a new version of his album Turbe giovanili, called Turbe giovanili Remaster. On 20 July 2010, Fibra also released his first web-album, Quorum, which was available on his website.
The album Controcultura was released on 7 September 2010 and quickly reached the number one spot on the Italian albums chart. It included popular songs like "VIP in trip" and "Tranne te" (both reaching #2 on the Italian singles chart). Other songs were "Qualcuno normale" featuring Marracash and "Le donne". Fabri Fibra said that "Le donne" was his response to criticism he received for years, especially because of his album Mr. Simpatia.
On 1 March 2011, Fibra released an extended-play (EP) called Tranne te (Rap futuristico EP). It had remixes of "Tranne te" with other artists like Redman and French rapper Soprano. It also featured old friends like Marracash and Dargen D'Amico. In the same month, Fibra released a free online mixtape called Venerdì 17. It included many freestyles and remixes of his older and newer songs.
The year 2011 was very successful for Fibra. He won four awards: a platinum disc for "Controcultura", a multiplatinum disc for "Tranne te", a "Superman" award from the TRL Awards 2011, and a "Wind Music" award. In the summer of 2011, Fibra started his own record label, "Tempi Duri Records". Young rappers Entics and Clementino joined his label.
Non è gratis (2012)
Fabri Fibra met Clementino in the summer of 2011 during his Controcultura Tour in Naples. They quickly started recording music together. Their first idea was to make a mixtape. But then, they decided to create a full album as a group called Rapstar. On 9 January 2012, they released two songs, "Ci rimani male/Chimica Brother". These songs were the first from their album Non è gratis, which came out on 31 January 2012.
Guerra e pace (2013)
Fabri Fibra's seventh studio album, Guerra e pace (War and Peace), was released on 5 February 2013. Before that, he released a free EP called Casus belli on 30 October 2012. The full album came out on 7 April 2017, with seventeen songs. It included collaborations with Thegiornalisti, Roberto Saviano, and Laïoung. The last two songs, "No help" and "Thanks", talked about personal topics, including his family life. The album features important artists like Salmo, Guè, Marracash, and Neffa. It also introduced newer artists like Lazza and Madame, who appeared on the title track "Caos".
Musical Disagreements
Fabri Fibra and Gemelli DiVersi
From 2006 to 2007, Fabri Fibra and Grido from Gemelli DiVersi had a series of musical disagreements, where they would release songs talking about each other. In 2006, Fabri Fibra mentioned Grido and Gemelli DiVersi in his song "Idee stupide". Grido responded with his song Standing Ovation, changing the words of Fabri Fibra's famous song "Applausi per Fibra". A few weeks later, at MTV Day in Bologna, Fabri Fibra and Vacca again used their songs to talk about Grido. The musical exchange ended in 2007 with Gemelli Diversi's song Bboy-Bband.
Fabri Fibra and His Brother Nesli
In October 2010, Fabri Fibra's brother Nesli gave an interview to the newspaper Panorama. He talked about their relationship, saying:
I ended the relationship with my brother three years ago, when his life fell apart the boundary that separates the person from the character. From a certain point he didn't want to take off the mask of Fabri Fibra. I returned to the surface after being dropped by Universal Music (Fabri Fibra's label)...
In 2013, Nesli and Fabri Fibra made peace. Nesli dedicated a part of his song Un bacio a te to his brother.
