Pepe Aguilar's Early Life and Music Journey
Pepe Aguilar was born in San Antonio, Texas, on August 7, 1968. His parents, Antonio Aguilar and Flor Silvestre, were on a concert tour at the time. Even though he was born in the United States, he grew up in Zacatecas, Mexico.
Pepe first sang on stage when he was three years old. This happened during his father's concert at Madison Square Garden. As a teenager, Pepe loved rock music. He even had his own band called "Equs." This band didn't last long, but it inspired him to make his first album. Some of his favorite rock bands were Pink Floyd and The Who.
Later, Pepe returned to Mexican Regional music. He mixed traditional styles with modern pop sounds. This helped him become a very important artist in Latin music. He also had a successful acting career.
First Albums and Big Success
Pepe Aguilar started his solo music career in 1989. His first album was "Pepe Aguilar Con Tambora." He released more special editions soon after. In 1992, he recorded his first mariachi album. It was called "Recuérdame Bonito." The famous Mexican singer-songwriter Joan Sebastian produced it. Pepe then released "Que Bueno" in 1993 and "Chiquilla Bonita" in 1994.
After some legal issues, Pepe released "Por Mujeres Como Tú" in July 1998. This album made him very famous in Mexico and Latin America.
On February 9, 1999, he released "Por El Amor De Siempre." This album featured new versions of songs from the 1970s. These songs were originally by artists like Camilo Sesto and José José. Pepe's new take on these old songs was a big hit. This album truly made his career strong. By October 1999, millions of copies had been sold. Many of its songs were played on the radio. It also won his first Grammy Award for "Best Regional Mexican Album."
Music from 2000 to 2006
In 2000, Pepe released an album to honor great artists who came before him. He wanted to thank "the most important voices of the golden age of ranchero music." These artists included Jorge Negrete, Pedro Infante, Javier Solis, and Vicente Fernandez.
His album "Lo Mejor De Nosotros" came out next. It featured new songs and was a team effort with the artist Fato. His song "Me Vas a Extrañar" became very popular.
On March 25, 2003, Pepe released "Y Tenerte Otra Vez." This was his first album made in his own recording studio, "Equinoccio Records." It included songs like "Me Falta Valor" and "Yo La Amo."
In 2003, he honored his parents with the album "Con Orgullo Por Herencia." It featured songs by his parents, Antonio Aguilar and Flor Silvestre. In 2004, Pepe sang the official song for Big Brother México, called "Miedo." This was a big deal because he had not sung an original song in 15 years.
"No Soy De Nadie" was released on August 31, 2004. The song "El Autobús" from this album was a big hit. This album included songs written by famous songwriters like Juan Gabriel. Pepe also wrote some of the songs himself.
In 2005, his album "Historias De Mi Tierra" honored the traditional Mexican song style called El Corrido. It included songs like "Dos Amigos" and "El Corrido de Chihuahua." This album won Pepe another Latin Grammy for 'Best Ranchero Album'. It also earned him an American Grammy for 'Best Mexican American Album'.
On August 15, 2006, Pepe released "Enamorado." This album was a follow-up to his 1999 album "Por El Amor De Siempre." It included the main song for the TV show "Destilando Amor," called "Por Amarte." This album won another Latin Grammy in 2007. In 2009, Pepe asked his fans not to buy his albums from the company Musart. He said they were copies and did not help him financially.
Pepe Aguilar received his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on July 26, 2012. It is located at 7060 Hollywood Blvd. His star is right next to his father's star.
