The History of LG
The story of LG began in 1947 when it was started as a chemical company called Lak Hui Chemical Industrial Corp. Its first product was a face cream called "Lucky Cream," which was the first makeup cream made in Korea.
In 1952, the company, then known as Lak Hui (pronounced "Lucky"), became the first in South Korea to work with plastics. As the company grew, it started another company called GoldStar Co. Ltd. in 1958. This company would later become LG Electronics. In 1983, the two companies, Lucky and GoldStar, joined together to become Lucky-Goldstar.
From GoldStar to LG
GoldStar made South Korea's very first radio. For many years, electronics like TVs and radios were sold under the GoldStar brand. Other products, like soap and laundry detergent, were sold under the Lucky brand in South Korea. The Lucky brand was also famous for its toothpaste.
The founder, Koo In-hwoi, led the company until he passed away in 1969. His son, Koo Cha-kyung, then took over. In 1995, his son, Koo Bon-moo, became the leader and changed the company's name to LG. He also created the famous slogan, "Life's Good."
In 2018, after Koo Bon-moo passed away, his adopted son Koo Kwang-mo became the new CEO of LG. This continued the family tradition of leading the company.
The Famous LG Jingle
You might have heard the short, catchy tune at the end of LG commercials. This jingle was created in 2008. It is now recognized by people all over the world and is used in LG ads and on its devices.
