The Story of the LG Twins
The LG Twins team started in 1982. Back then, they were called the MBC Chungyong. They were owned by a company called Munhwa Broadcasting Corporation. In their first year, they played at two different stadiums. They started at Dongdaemun Baseball Stadium and then moved to their current home, Jamsil Baseball Stadium.
A special player-manager named Baek In-chun led the team at the start. A player-manager is someone who plays on the team and also coaches it! Baek In-chun had played baseball in Japan for many years. In 1982, he was 38 years old and was the best hitter in the league. He taught the team a special way to play called "small ball." This style focuses on clever plays like bunts and stolen bases to score runs, instead of just hitting home runs.
In 1989, a big company called LG Corporation bought the team. They changed the team's name to the LG Twins. Just one year later, in 1990, the Twins won their very first championship, the Korean Series! Guess who was their manager? It was Baek In-chun again! They won their second championship in 1994.
A star player named Kim Yong-soo was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) in both of those championship wins. His jersey number, 41, was later retired. This means no other player on the team can ever wear that number again, honoring his great achievements.
After 2002, the team had a tough time for a while. They did not make it to the playoffs for eleven years. But they kept working hard! In 2013, they made it to the playoffs again. They also reached the postseason several times between 2014 and 2022.
Then came 2023! The LG Twins had an amazing season. They won the regular season title, which meant they went straight to the Korean Series. In the finals, their captain, Oh Ji-hwan, led the team to victory. They beat the KT Wiz 4–1 in five games. This win ended a long 29-year wait for another championship! It was a huge celebration for the team and their fans.
