The LG Twins (Korean: LG 트윈스) are a professional baseball team from South Korea. They are based in Seoul, the capital city. The Twins play in the KBO League, which is the top baseball league in South Korea. Their home games are held at Jamsil Baseball Stadium. They share this stadium with their city rivals, the Doosan Bears.

History of the LG Twins

The team started in 1982. Back then, they were called MBC Chungyong. They were owned by a company called Munhwa Broadcasting Corporation. In their first year, they played some games at Dongdaemun Baseball Stadium. Later that year, they moved to Jamsil Baseball Stadium, where they still play today.

A player named Baek In-chun was their first manager. He was also a player! Baek In-chun had played baseball in Japan for 19 years. In 1982, even at 38 years old, he was the best hitter in the league. He had a batting average of .412, which was a record! As a manager, Baek In-chun taught his team a special way to play called "small ball". This means focusing on things like sacrifice bunts (hitting the ball to move a runner, even if you get out), stolen bases (running to the next base before the ball gets there), and sacrifice flies (hitting the ball far enough for a runner to score, even if you get out). Even though the team played well in 1982, Baek In-chun left after that season.

In 1989, a company called LG Corporation bought the team. They changed the team's name to the LG Twins. The very next year, in 1990, the Twins won their first Korean Series title! Baek In-chun was their manager again. In 1994, they won their second championship. A player named Kim Yong-soo was the Most Valuable Player (MVP) in both of these championship series. His jersey number 41 was later retired, meaning no other player on the team can wear it.

After their appearance in the Korean Series in 2002, the team had a tough time. They did not make it to the postseason for eleven years. This period is sometimes called their "dark ages." In 2013, they finally made it back to the playoffs. They finished second in the regular season but were eliminated by the Doosan Bears. Between 2014 and 2022, the Twins made it to the postseason six more times. However, they did not reach the Korean Series during those years.

In the 2023 season, the LG Twins had a fantastic year. They won the regular season title, which meant they went straight to the Korean Series. In the finals, the Twins, led by their captain and Korean Series MVP Oh Ji-hwan, played against the KT Wiz. The Twins won the series 4–1 in five games. This victory ended the club's 29-year wait for a championship!
