Koo Bon-moo (born February 10, 1945 – died May 20, 2018) was an important South Korean business leader. He was known for leading the LG Group, a very big company. He helped change the company's name and made it famous around the world.

Early Life and Education
Koo Bon-moo was born on February 10, 1945, in Jinju, a city in South Korea. He started his university studies at Yonsei University in South Korea. Later, he moved to the United States to continue his education.
He earned his bachelor's degree from Ashland University in Ohio. After that, he completed his master's degree at Cleveland State University.
Leading the LG Group
After finishing his studies, Koo Bon-moo returned to South Korea in 1975. He began working for a company called Lucky Chemical, which later became known as LG Chem. This company makes many different chemical products.
In 1980, he moved to work at GoldStar, another company that later became part of LG. From 1983 to 1985, he was in charge of GoldStar's office in Tokyo, Japan.
Becoming Chairman
In 1995, Koo Bon-moo became the chairman of the LG Group. He took over this big role from his father, Koo Cha-kyung. His father was the oldest son of the person who first started LG, Koo In-hwoi.
The Koo family had a tradition where only male family members could lead the company. Koo Bon-moo had lost his only son in 1994. Because of this, in 2004, he adopted his nephew, Koo Kwang-mo, to continue the family's leadership.
Later Years and Passing
Starting in 2017, Koo Bon-moo received medical care for a serious illness. He eventually stopped his medical treatments. He passed away in Seoul, South Korea, on May 20, 2018, when he was 73 years old.
