How the Awards Started
First Steps in 2013
In 2013, Nickelodeon tried something new! They added special Colombian categories to the Kids' Choice Awards Mexico. This was a test. If enough kids voted for these categories, Colombia would get its very own awards show. Colombia had great TV ratings for Nickelodeon shows back then. Also, a popular Colombian show called Chica Vampiro helped a lot. It even had two categories: "Personality of the Year (Colombian)" and "Best Musical Artist (Colombian)".
Many cool stars were nominated. These included the band Alkylados, TV host Linda Palma, and actor Diego Saenz. The winners were the music group Alkylados and Olympic medalist Mariana Pajón. Because so many Colombian kids voted, Nickelodeon decided to launch the Kids' Choice Awards Colombia the next year!
The First Colombian Show in 2014
After the successful test in 2013, Nickelodeon Latin America confirmed it! The first-ever Kids' Choice Awards Colombia would happen. It was set for August 30, 2014, in the city of Bogotá. This was a big deal for Colombian fans. The success of shows like Chica Vampiro really helped make this happen.
