Austin Mahone is an American singer. He was born in San Antonio, Texas, on April 4, 1996. He became famous by sharing videos of himself singing pop songs on YouTube.

In 2012, record producers discovered him. He then signed with Chase Records and Republic Records. His early songs like "Say Somethin'" and "Say You're Just a Friend" became very popular. His song "What About Love" was his first to appear on the Billboard music chart. These songs were part of his first music collection, an extended play (EP), released in Japan in 2013.

In 2014, his song "Mmm Yeah" with Pitbull became a big hit. It was his highest-charting song on the Billboard Hot 100. This song was on his second EP, The Secret. After releasing "Dirty Work" in 2015, he changed record labels. "Dirty Work" was a huge success in Japan. This led to his first full album, Dirty Work – The Album, being released only in Japan in 2017. More recently, his second album, A Lone Star Story (2023), showed a change in his music style, moving towards country music.

Music Career

Early Days and First Hits (2010–2014)

Austin Mahone started his music journey by uploading videos to YouTube in June 2010. He posted more music videos and quickly gained many fans online. In October 2011, he shared a video covering Justin Bieber's song "Mistletoe". Mahone has said that Justin Bieber inspired him.

On February 14, 2012, Mahone released his first song, "11:11," on iTunes. On June 5, 2012, he released his second song, "Say Somethin," around the world. In August 2012, he announced he had signed with Chase/Republic Records. He also became a "Teen Ambassador" for Lil Wayne's Trukfit clothing line.

He appeared in commercials for McDonald's and Hot Nuts, a Mexican snack. On December 3, 2012, Mahone released "Say You're Just a Friend" with rapper Flo Rida. He later released a piano version of the song. He explained that he wanted fans to hear his voice clearly. On May 29, 2013, his first EP, Extended Play, came out only in Japan.

In June 2013, Mahone released "What About Love". The music video won an award at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards. He also got to open shows for Taylor Swift on her Red Tour.

In July 2013, Mahone was featured in "Magik 2.0" with Becky G for The Smurfs 2 movie soundtrack. In December 2013, he became a "Digital and Brand Strategist" for Aquafina's FlavorSplash. This was a new line of flavored sparkling water for teens. On October 17, 2013, he started his first tour, MTV's Artist to Watch Tour. On November 13, he released "Banga Banga" as a special song. "Mmm Yeah" was the main song from his second EP, The Secret, released on January 27, 2014. The Secret came out on May 27, 2014. On July 25, 2014, Mahone started his second tour, Austin Mahone: Live on Tour.

New Music and Japanese Success (2015–2018)

In 2015, Austin Mahone kept releasing music on his own. He put out five new songs for free on his SoundCloud page. These included "Say My Name" and "Dirty Work". Mahone also appeared in Becky G's music video for "Lovin' So Hard". The video was released on May 6, 2015.

On July 1, 2015, Mahone released "Dirty Work". This was the first song from his upcoming album. He told Billboard that the album would be out by the end of 2015. In August 2015, he was chosen as Elvis Duran's Artist of the Month. He performed "Dirty Work" live on NBC's Today show.

Throughout September and October 2015, Mahone continued to release new songs like "Do It Right" and "Put It On Me" on SoundCloud. In November 2015, he announced he would release a free mixtape. On December 15, 2015, he shared the title, This Is Not the Album, and released it on December 17, 2015. In May 2016, Mahone became a face for Macy's American Icons campaign. He released two more songs in August 2016: "Send It" and "Way Up". On December 7, 2016, he announced his second mixtape, ForMe+You, which came out on December 29, 2016.

"Lady" was the main song from this mixtape. It was a remix of a 2001 song by Modjo and featured Pitbull. The song was officially released on April 19, 2017. Mahone performed "Lady" on Pitbull's New Year's Revolution. He also performed at Dolce & Gabbana fashion shows in Italy. In March 2017, he performed at POPSPRING Japan. His song "Dirty Work" became very popular there, reaching number 1. He also started working with Fossil.

Mahone began his A Tour For Me+You on May 31, 2017. On April 12, he released a new song, "Creatures of the Night," with DJ Hardwell.

Since 2017, Japanese comedian Blouson Chiemi used "Dirty Work" in her popular comedy act. This helped the song reach number 4 on the Japan Hot 100 Chart. It also earned a gold award in Japan. Mahone then announced his first studio album would be released only in Japan. This album included his songs "Lady" with Pitbull and "Creatures of the Night" with Hardwell. "Creatures of the Night" reached number 1 on Billboard's US Dance Club Songs chart.

The album came out on October 18, 2017. It also featured "Perfect Body," a song used in a Japanese shampoo commercial. On the album's release day, Mahone put out two more songs, "I Don't Believe You" and "Found You," for fans worldwide. On May 16, 2018, Mahone released another EP, Oxygen, only in Japan.

New Directions (2019–Present)

On February 4, 2019, Mahone released the song "Why Don't We." This song was written by Charlie Puth. It mixes modern pop with old-school R&B sounds from the 1990s. The music video for "Why Don't We" came out on March 2, 2019, on YouTube.

Mahone released a new song called "Summer Love" on October 16, 2020. In November 2020, he released "Miami," a song with Mario Bautista and Lalo Ebratt. This song reached number 31 in Mexico.

In January 2023, Mahone worked with Fueled by 808, Kid Rock, and Jimmie Allen on the song "No Limits." In February 2023, Mahone released "Withdrawal," produced by Jim Jonsin. On June 5, 2023, Mahone announced his new album, A Lone Star Story. It was released on June 23, 2023. With this announcement, he also released the album's first song, "Kuntry." Mahone told Billboard that he started the album during the pandemic. He said he grew up listening to country music and feels very comfortable making it now.

Personal Life

Austin Mahone briefly dated Cuban-American singer Camila Cabello in 2014. He also dated model Katya Elise Henry for less than a year. They broke up in February 2017.
