Austin Mahone is an American singer who became famous by sharing videos of himself singing pop songs on YouTube. He was born and grew up in San Antonio, Texas.
Austin Mahone was discovered by music producers in 2012. He then signed with Chase Records and Republic Records. His first songs, "Say Somethin'" and "Say You're Just a Friend," became very popular. His song "What About Love" even made it onto the Billboard Hot 100 chart. These songs were part of his first music collection, called an extended play (EP), which was released in Japan in 2013.
In 2014, his song "Mmm Yeah" with Pitbull became a big hit, selling over a million copies. It was his highest-charting song on the Billboard Hot 100. This song was on his second EP, The Secret, which reached number five on the Billboard 200 album chart. After releasing "Dirty Work" in 2015, he started working with Pitbull's record label, Mr. 305 Inc. "Dirty Work" became very popular in Japan, leading to his first full album, Dirty Work – The Album, being released there in 2017. His second album, A Lone Star Story, released in 2023, showed a change in his music style, moving from pop to country music.

Early Life and Beginnings
Austin Harris Mahone was born in San Antonio, Texas. His father passed away when Austin was very young, and he was raised by his mother. He went to Lady Bird Johnson High School for a year before being homeschooled.
Austin started his music journey by uploading videos to YouTube in June 2010. He quickly gained many followers online. In 2011, he posted a video covering Justin Bieber's song "Mistletoe" and has said that Justin Bieber inspired him. He also gets musical inspiration from artists like Chris Brown and Tim McGraw.
Music Career Highlights
Early Success and First EPs (2010–2014)
On February 14, 2012, Austin Mahone released his first independent song, "11:11," on iTunes. It sold 100,000 copies. In June, he released his first official single, "Say Somethin'." He started getting offers from record labels and signed with Chase/Republic Records in August 2012.
In November 2012, Austin became a "Teen Ambassador" for Lil Wayne's Trukfit clothing line. He also appeared in commercials for McDonald's. In December 2012, he released his second single, "Say You're Just a Friend" featuring Flo Rida. He later released a piano version of the song. In March 2013, he shared a music video for "Heart in My Hand," which he made himself.
His first EP, Extended Play, was released only in Japan on May 29, 2013. Austin visited Japan to promote it and announced a tour there.
On June 10, 2013, Austin released "What About Love" as the main song from his next EP, The Secret. This song was his first to chart on the Billboard Hot 100. The music video for "What About Love" won an award at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards. Austin was also an opening act for Taylor Swift's Red Tour. In July 2013, he was featured in the song "Magik 2.0" for The Smurfs 2 movie soundtrack. He started his first headlining tour, MTV's Artist to Watch Tour, in October 2013.
"Mmm Yeah" featuring Pitbull was released on January 26, 2014. It became a platinum-selling song and reached number 49 on the Billboard Hot 100. Austin released other songs like "U," "Till I Find You," and "All I Ever Need" before his EP The Secret came out in May 2014. The Secret debuted at number five on the Billboard 200 chart. In July 2014, Austin started his second headlining tour, Austin Mahone: Live on Tour.
New Music and Albums (2015–Present)
In 2015, Austin continued to release new songs independently, including "Say My Name" and "Torture." He also appeared in Becky G's music video for "Lovin' So Hard." On July 1, 2015, he released "Dirty Work," which was meant to be the first song from his upcoming album. He also performed in Japan with the band Sekai no Owari.
In August 2015, Austin was featured on NBC's Today show, where he performed "Dirty Work." He kept releasing new songs like "Do It Right" and "Put It On Me" for free online. In December 2015, he released a free collection of songs called This Is Not the Album.
In May 2016, Austin became a face for Macy's American Icons campaign. He released two more songs in August 2016, "Send It" and "Way Up." His second collection of songs, ForMe+You, was released in December 2016.
On New Year's Eve, Austin performed "Lady" with Pitbull. This song became a number one hit on Billboard's US Dance Club Songs chart. In early 2017, "Dirty Work" became a huge hit in Japan after a comedian used it in her routine. It reached number four on the Japan Hot 100 chart. Austin performed at POPSPRING Japan and started a campaign with Fossil. In May 2017, he released "Creatures of the Night" with DJ Hardwell, which also topped the US Dance Club Songs chart. Austin then went on his third headlining tour, A Tour For Me + You.
On September 13, 2017, Austin announced his first studio album, Dirty Work – The Album, which was released only in Japan on October 18, 2017. It included his popular songs "Lady" and "Creatures of the Night." The album reached number 34 on the Japanese Albums Chart. In December, he released "Háblame Bajito" with Abraham Mateo and 50 Cent.
Austin toured Japan again in May and June 2018. He also released his fourth EP, Oxygen, exclusively in Japan. The song "So Good" from this EP reached number 21 on the Japan Hot 100.
In February 2019, Austin released "Why Don't We," a song written by Charlie Puth. He followed this with "Anxious" and "Dancing with Nobody." He performed in Japan again in October 2019.
In October 2020, Austin released a new song called "Summer Love." In November 2020, he released "Miami" with Mario Bautista and Lalo Ebratt. He also streamed his fifth EP, Magic City, in June 2021.
Austin released the song "Sundress" in October 2022. In January 2023, he worked with Fueled by 808, Kid Rock, and Jimmie Allen on "No Limits." In February 2023, he released "Withdrawal." On June 5, 2023, Austin announced his new album, A Lone Star Story, which came out on June 23, 2023. Along with this announcement, he released the song "Kuntry." Austin shared that he grew up listening to country music and felt comfortable making an album in that style. The album includes "Sundress" and "Withdrawal." He released two new songs, "Sooner or Later" in September 2024 and "Rearview" in March 2025.
Personal Life
Austin Mahone briefly dated American singer Camila Cabello in 2014. He also dated singer Becky G in 2015. He later dated model Katya Elise Henry.
