Early Life and Moving to Nashville
Jimmie Allen was born in Milton, Delaware, in the United States. In 2007, he moved to Nashville, Tennessee, to follow his music dreams. When he first moved, he faced tough times. He often had to live in his car.
He tried out for the TV show American Idol in its tenth season. He didn't make it to the live shows. But he met other singers like Scotty McCreery, who won that year. Later, Jimmie and Scotty toured together.
Jimmie Allen's Music Career
Jimmie Allen signed his first music deal in 2016. He then signed with Stoney Creek Records in 2017. This label is part of Broken Bow Records. He released his first collection of songs, called an EP, which was named Jimmie Allen. Music experts said his sound was fresh and modern.
First Hit Songs
His first official song, "Best Shot", came out in early 2018. It quickly became popular on country radio. The song was inspired by his grandmother and his son. It reached number one on the Billboard Country Airplay chart in November 2018. This made him the first Black artist to have his first song reach the top of that chart.
His first album, Mercury Lane, was released in October 2018. The album's name comes from the street where Jimmie grew up. The second song from the album, "Make Me Want To", also became a number one hit in 2019.
New Music and Collaborations
In 2019, Jimmie Allen recorded a cover of "Shallow" with Abby Anderson. In 2020, he released "This Is Us," a duet with Noah Cyrus. This song was on his new EP, Bettie James.
Another popular song from that EP was "Freedom Was a Highway." This was a duet with country star Brad Paisley. It became Jimmie's third number one hit in February 2022.
Awards and TV Appearances
Jimmie Allen won New Male Artist of the Year at the 2021 ACM Awards. He also performed with Brad Paisley at the show. In September 2021, he joined the TV show Dancing with the Stars. He and his partner Emma Slater finished in 7th place.
On November 10, 2021, he won New Artist of the Year at the CMA Awards. He also performed at the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in November 2021. In February 2022, he was a guest mentor on American Idol.
He also sang on songs with Noah Schnacky and Nick Carter. His third album, Tulip Drive, was released on June 24, 2022. In 2023, Jimmie Allen was a coach on the TV show My Kind of Country.
