Nickolas Gene Carter (born January 28, 1980) is an American singer. He is best known as a lead vocalist for the famous group Backstreet Boys. He has also released several solo albums and appeared on TV shows.

Early Life and Childhood
Nick Carter was born in Jamestown, New York. When he was four, his family moved to Ruskin, Florida, near Tampa. His parents managed a retirement home there.
Nick has several siblings: Leslie, Aaron, Angel, and Bobbie Jean. He once shared that having many siblings meant he always had someone to play with.
Music and Acting Career
Nick started his career very young. His mother noticed his singing and enrolled him in voice lessons. He also took dance lessons in ballet, tap, and hip hop.
Nick performed in commercials and talent shows. He even appeared at Tampa Bay Buccaneers home games. He had a small part in the 1990 film Edward Scissorhands. He was just a child playing in the background.
Joining the Backstreet Boys
When Nick was 12, he auditioned for two big opportunities. He could join Disney's The Mickey Mouse Club or a new music group. He chose the music group, which became the Backstreet Boys.
On April 20, 1993, at age 13, Nick joined AJ McLean, Brian Littrell, Howie Dorough, and Kevin Richardson. Nick is the youngest member of the group. The Backstreet Boys have released many albums since the mid-1990s. Their latest album, DNA, came out in 2019.
Nick's Solo Music
In 2002, Nick started working on his own music. He released his first solo album, Now Or Never, in October 2002. It sold over 500,000 copies in its first week. The album was very popular in the United States and Canada.
He released his second solo album, I'm Taking Off, in 2011. Nick wrote most of the songs on this album himself. In 2014, he teamed up with Jordan Knight from New Kids on the Block. They released a duet album called Nick & Knight.
In 2015, Nick released his third solo album, All American. This album had a pop/rock sound. It even featured Canadian singer Avril Lavigne on one song.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Nick announced new solo projects. In 2023, he released the song Hurts To Love You to honor his late brother Aaron. He also released Superman, dedicated to his family.
In July 2023, Nick announced his Who I Am World Tour. This tour allowed fans to hear his solo songs and Backstreet Boys hits. The tour started in October 2023 and expanded to many countries. His new solo album, Love Life Tragedy, was released on May 15, 2025.
Emmy Award Win
In August 2023, Nick lent his voice to "Happy Xmas." This song featured patients from the Cure 4 The Kids Foundation. All money from the song helps the foundation.
In June 2024, Nick and Mitch Koulouris won an Emmy Award for this song. It was recognized for "Outstanding Musical Composition & Arrangement." This was a proud moment for them.
Acting Roles
Nick has also appeared in various TV shows. He was on American Dreams in 2002 and 8 Simple Rules in 2003. In 2004, he starred in the TV movie The Hollow.
In 2013, he appeared in the comedy film This Is the End with the Backstreet Boys. Nick has also written and directed his own short film, The Pendant.
He also worked on a movie called Dead 7. This film was about a group of heroes fighting zombies. It starred Nick, his wife Lauren, and other boy band members. The movie aired on the SyFy network in 2016.
Reality TV Appearances
In 2006, Nick and his siblings starred in their reality show, House of Carters. The show followed the family as they tried to reconnect.
In 2014, Nick and his wife, Lauren Kitt, had their own reality show. I Heart Nick Carter showed the planning of their wedding.
Nick also competed on Dancing with the Stars in 2015. He and his partner, Sharna Burgess, came in second place.

He also appeared on the Canadian version of The Masked Singer as a Sphynx cat. His performance broke viewership records.
Charity Work
Nick is passionate about helping others. In 2001, he started the Oceans Campaign. This project aimed to raise awareness about ocean health.
In 2007, he became a Special Ambassador for the Year of the Dolphin. He represented the United Nations Environment Program. He also worked with the Whale and Dolphin Conservation Society.
Nick has supported the Cure 4 The Kids Foundation. This center treats children with cancer and rare diseases. He has also raised money for the On Our Sleeves organization. This group helps children with mental and emotional health struggles.
Personal Life
Nick Carter is married to Lauren Michelle Kitt. She is a fitness expert and actress. They met in 2008 and got married in 2014. Their wedding was featured on his reality show, I Heart Nick Carter.
They have three children: a son born in 2016 and two daughters born in 2019 and 2021. Nick has shared that he sometimes misses family events due to touring.
