What is Edward Scissorhands about?
The movie begins with an old woman telling her granddaughter a bedtime story. She talks about how snow first came to be. Her story is about a kind but unusual young man named Edward. Instead of hands, he has sharp scissors.
Edward's unusual home
Edward lives all alone in a spooky castle on top of a mountain. He was created by a brilliant but lonely inventor. Sadly, the inventor died before he could give Edward human hands. This left Edward unfinished and by himself.
Edward meets the world
One day, a friendly saleswoman named Peg from Avon visits the castle. She feels sorry for Edward and invites him to live with her family. Edward is welcomed into the colorful, suburban neighborhood.
Edward's special talents
Edward quickly becomes popular because of his unique skills. He is amazing at gardening, creating incredible sculptures from bushes. He also becomes a talented hairdresser, giving people very stylish and unusual haircuts.
Trouble begins
Not everyone is kind to Edward. Kim's boyfriend, Jim, tries to use Edward's special abilities for his own bad plans. He convinces Edward to help him steal money from his father's house. However, the security system goes off, and Edward is caught alone. Jim leaves him behind, and from then on, Jim dislikes Edward.
Misunderstandings and danger
Later, Edward makes a beautiful ice sculpture of Kim, creating snow for the first time. Jim calls out to Kim, startling Edward, who accidentally cuts Kim's hand. Jim unfairly blames Edward, saying it was on purpose. Another time, Edward saves a boy named Kevin from a car accident. But people misunderstand and think Edward was trying to hurt Kevin.
Edward returns home
Because of these misunderstandings, people in the village start to suspect Edward. He decides to go back to his castle on the mountain. Jim follows him there, wanting to hurt him. In a struggle, Edward accidentally pushes Jim out of a window, and Jim dies.
Kim wants to protect Edward. She tells the villagers that Edward and Jim killed each other, so no one will go after Edward. The story ends with a surprising reveal: the old woman telling the story is actually Kim, many years later. She still remembers Edward and the snow he created.
