Rebbeca Marie Gomez (born March 2, 1997), known as Becky G, is an American singer and actress. She grew up in Inglewood, California. Becky G became famous in 2011 by posting videos of herself singing cover songs on YouTube. A music producer named Dr. Luke saw her videos and signed her to a record label. After that, she worked with artists like will.i.am and Cher Lloyd.

In 2013, Becky G released her first official song, "Becky from the Block". In 2014, her song "Shower" became a big hit, reaching the top 20 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. It sold over two million copies! She also toured with J Balvin and acted in the TV show Empire. Later, Becky G started singing more songs in Spanish, like "Sola" in 2016.

Her albums, all in Spanish, have been very popular. Her first album, Mala Santa (2019), included hit songs like "Mayores" and "Sin Pijama". Her second album, Esquemas (2022), had the super popular song "Mamiii" with Karol G, which was her highest-charting song. Early Life and Career Beginnings (1997–2011)

Rebbeca Marie Gomez was born on March 2, 1997, in Inglewood, California. Her parents, Alejandra and Francisco Gomez, are Mexican American. Her grandparents are from Jalisco, Mexico. Becky G has two brothers and a younger sister. When she was nine, her family faced money problems and had to move into her grandparents' garage.

To help her family, Becky G started working part-time jobs, doing commercials and voice-overs. At age nine, she decided she wanted to be a music artist. She went to public school at first but later studied at home because of bullying. She said she was often picked on because of her entertainment jobs.

Becky G appeared in a short film called El Tux (2008) and a TV film called La estación de la Calle Olvera (2008). In 2009, she joined a girl group called G.L.A.M., and later another group called B.C.G. Around this time, she also started recording herself singing and rapping songs using GarageBand. She made a YouTube account to share her cover songs. She also began writing her own music and taught herself to play guitar by age thirteen.

When she was thirteen, Becky G met a music production team called The Jam. They liked her songs. They worked together on covers of popular songs like "Otis" (2011) and "Take Care" (2011). Her cover of "Otis" caught the eye of famous producer Dr. Luke. He had worked with stars like Britney Spears and Miley Cyrus. Dr. Luke met with Becky G and signed her to his record label, Kemosabe Records, which is part of RCA Records. He was very impressed by her talent. Soon after, Becky G started working on her first album.

Music Success and Acting (2012–2015)

In 2012, while making her first album, Becky G released "Problem" with will.i.am. This song was used in the movie Hotel Transylvania. She also sang on Cody Simpson's song "Wish U Were Here" and Cher Lloyd's song "Oath". "Oath" was a success, becoming Becky G's first song to appear on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. It sold over 500,000 copies in the U.S.

On April 8, 2013, Becky G released "Becky from the Block". This song was her own version of Jennifer Lopez's hit "Jenny from the Block." Jennifer Lopez even appeared in Becky G's music video! On July 13, Becky G released her first collection of songs, called Play It Again. The song "Can't Get Enough" with Pitbull became her first number-one song on a Billboard chart in the U.S.

In 2014, Becky G released "Shower", which became a huge hit. It reached the top twenty on the Billboard Hot 100 and sold two million copies. Becky G also became a spokesperson for CoverGirl makeup. She filmed commercials and used their products in her music videos. Her next song, "Can't Stop Dancin'" (2014), also did well.

Becky G opened concerts for Demi Lovato and Katy Perry on their tours in 2014 and 2015. She sang on a song with Mexican singer Thalía called "Como Tú No Hay Dos" (2015). Becky G filmed Power Rangers in Canada in 2016. She also worked with Pitbull again on "Superstar," which was the official song for the Copa América Centenario soccer tournament. In 2016, Becky G decided to focus on Spanish music. On June 24, 2016, she released "Sola," her first song sung completely in Spanish. It became popular on Spanish radio.

Becky G has said that Selena influenced her and that she is proud of her Mexican background. She sang on a remake of Selena's song "Si Una Vez" in 2017. On March 3, 2017, she released "Todo Cambio." On March 24, Power Rangers was released, which was her first big movie. Her character, Trini, was a queer superhero, which was a big step for representation.

On July 14, Becky G released "Mayores" with Bad Bunny. This song was a huge hit and marked a "new era" for her music. She also opened for the girl group Fifth Harmony on their tour in Latin America. Becky G released her second album, Esquemas, in May 2022. The album featured hit songs like "Ram Pam Pam" and "Fulanito". The song "Mamiii" with Karol G was a huge success, becoming her first number-one song on the Hot Latin Songs chart. The album was nominated for several awards.
