Hassan Emilio Kabande Laija (born on June 15, 1999), known as Peso Pluma, is a Mexican singer and rapper. He is famous for his regional Mexican music, especially a style called corridos tumbados. Hassan started playing guitar when he was a teenager. He also began writing songs inspired by Mexican music styles.

He gained some attention with his first two albums, Ah y Qué? (2020) and Efectos Secundarios (2021). He became very popular with songs like "Por Las Noches" and "El Belicón" (with Raúl Vega). This success continued with his EP Sembrando (2022) and the song "Siempre Pendientes" (with Luis R. Conriquez). This song was his first to appear on the Billboard Global 200 chart.

His songs with Natanael Cano, including "AMG" (with Gabito Ballesteros) and "PRC", became very popular on TikTok. They also appeared on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart. In April 2023, his song "Ella Baila Sola" with Eslabon Armado made history. It was the first regional Mexican song to reach the top 10 of the Hot 100, peaking at number 4. That same week, Hassan had a record eight songs on the chart at once. This was the most for any Mexican artist. The song was also the fifth most-streamed song globally on Spotify in 2023.

His third album, Génesis (2023), won him his first Grammy Award. It was for Best Música Mexicana Album (including Tejano). This album was also his first to reach the top 10 on the Billboard 200 chart. His fourth album, Éxodo (2024), debuted at number 5 on the same chart. This made it his second album in a row to reach the top 10 in the US. Peso Pluma is known for mixing Sinaloa-style corridos with Urbano music, like Latin hip hop and reggaeton. He is seen as a key artist in bringing back the corrido style. He is currently the most-streamed Mexican artist of all time.

Early Life and Music Journey

Hassan Emilio Kabande Laija was born on June 15, 1999, in Zapopan, Jalisco, Mexico. His parents are Hassan Kabande and Rubí Laija. His mother's family came from Badiraguato, Sinaloa. His father was born in Chiapas and has Lebanese and Palestinian family roots. His ancestors moved from Bethlehem in the early 1900s.

Growing up in Guadalajara, he started playing the guitar at age 15. He learned by watching videos on YouTube. Hassan began writing songs in a diary. He said that writing became like therapy for him. He explained, "That’s where I’d write how I was feeling, then I realized some stuff would rhyme. I kept practicing and became better with time."

Starting His Career (2020–2021)

After writing music together for years, Hassan worked with his cousin, Roberto "Tito" Laija Garcia, also known as Tito Double P. They released two live albums: Disco en Vivo on February 21, 2020, and Disco en Vivo, Vol. 2 on July 4. These albums were released by the independent label El Cartel de los Ángeles. They featured recordings of his performances around Jalisco.

In April 2020, he released his first studio album, Ah y Qué?. It had twelve songs and featured other artists like El Choforo. He then released his live recording of "Relajado Voy" with Decreto Real on October 7. This was his first single. He followed this with "Mil Historias" with Hector Rubio on November 13 and "El Petter" with Decreto Real on December 4. After this, he decided to work on new music.

Hassan released his second studio album, Efectos Secundarios, on March 19, 2021. Before this, he released singles like "Con Dinero Baila el Perro". He also released "Lo Que Me Das," which had a music video. He worked with previous artists like El Choforo again. To develop his sound, Hassan released the single "Por Las Noches" on June 11. This was a slower sierreño song about a breakup. "Todo Es Playa" was his last single with El Cartel de los Ángeles. After this, he moved to Prajin Records under George Prajin. To mark this change, he released "Spiral" on November 25.

He also worked with Tornillos and Polo Gonzales on "Sentosa" for the Latin American esports division of Garena Free Fire. On June 3, he released "30 Tiros," an acoustic corrido about his success.
