Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio (born March 10, 1994), known as Bad Bunny, is a famous rapper, singer, and music producer from Puerto Rico. Many people call him the "King of Latin Trap" because he helped make Spanish-language rap music popular all over the world. He is seen as one of the greatest Latin rappers ever.

Bad Bunny became well-known in 2016 with his song "Diles." This led to a record deal and many hit songs. He worked with Cardi B on "I Like It" and released "Mía" with Drake. His first album, X 100pre (2018), was very successful.

His album YHLQMDLG (2020) became the highest-charting all-Spanish album on the Billboard 200 chart at the time. His third album, El Último Tour Del Mundo (2020), was the first all-Spanish album to reach number one on that chart. His album Un Verano Sin Ti (2022) spent many weeks at number one and was nominated for a Grammy Award for Album of the Year.

In 2023, he released Nadie Sabe Lo Que Va a Pasar Mañana. His album Debí Tirar Más Fotos (2025) made history by winning the Grammy Award for Album of the Year in 2026. Bad Bunny was the most-streamed artist on Spotify for several years. He also performed at the Super Bowl LX halftime show in 2026. Outside of music, he is also known for his appearances in professional wrestling and movies like Bullet Train.

Growing Up in Puerto Rico

Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio was born on March 10, 1994. He grew up in Vega Baja, Puerto Rico, a town outside of the big city. His dad was a truck driver, and his mom was a teacher. He has two younger brothers.

Benito's parents loved listening to music like salsa and merengue. When he was five, he got a CD by a famous Puerto Rican rapper, Vico C, for Christmas. This sparked his love for music. He also enjoyed listening to artists like Marc Anthony.

Benito often said he preferred being at home with his family. He sang in his church choir until he was 13. After that, he became interested in radio artists like Daddy Yankee. His stage name, Bad Bunny, came from a time when he had to wear a bunny costume and wasn't happy about it!

After high school, Benito went to the University of Puerto Rico at Arecibo. He studied communications, hoping to become a radio host. To earn money, he worked at a supermarket. But his true passion was making music. He eventually left college to follow his dream of becoming a musician.

Music Career

Starting His Music Journey

Bad Bunny began writing his own music when he was 14 years old. In 2016, his song "Diles" became popular on SoundCloud. This caught the eye of a music producer named DJ Luian, who signed him to his record label.

His song "Soy Peor" came out in December 2016 and became a hit. In 2017, he worked with Colombian singer Karol G on the song "Ahora Me Llama," which also did very well. He also started hosting a Spanish-language radio show called Trap Kingz.

A remix of the song "Te Boté," which featured Bad Bunny along with Ozuna and Nicky Jam, became a number one hit. This helped him become even more recognized in the music world.

Bad Bunny also used his voice for important causes. In 2019, he joined protests in Puerto Rico to support changes in the government. He even released a song called "Afilando Los Cuchillos" during these events.

YHLQMDLG was praised for its diverse music. Songs like "Vete" and "Yo Perreo Sola" became very popular. In the music video for "Yo Perreo Sola," Bad Bunny dressed in drag to send a message about respecting women. He also released a song called "En Casita" during the COVID-19 pandemic to show support for people staying home.
