Austin Richard Post (born July 4, 1995), known as Post Malone, is an American rapper, singer, songwriter, and record producer. He is famous for mixing different music styles. These include hip-hop, pop, R&B, trap, and country. His stage name "Post Malone" came from putting his birth name into a rap name generator.
Malone started his music journey in 2011. He became well-known with his first single, "White Iverson", in 2015. This song reached number 14 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart. He then signed with Republic Records. His first album, Stoney (2016), reached number four on the Billboard 200. It included the hit song "Congratulations" (featuring Quavo). This song later became diamond-certified, meaning it sold over 10 million units.
His second album, Beerbongs & Bentleys (2018), went straight to number one on the Billboard 200. It also broke many streaming records. This album had two number-one songs on the Billboard Hot 100: "Rockstar" (featuring 21 Savage) and "Psycho" (featuring Ty Dolla Sign). It was also nominated for Album of the Year at the 61st Grammy Awards.
Malone's third number-one song on the Billboard Hot 100 was "Sunflower" (with Swae Lee). It was released for the movie soundtrack of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse in 2018. This song made history by becoming the first to be certified double diamond (20-times platinum) by the RIAA.
"Sunflower" was also on Malone's third album, Hollywood's Bleeding (2019). This album also reached number one on the Billboard 200. It received his second nomination for Album of the Year at the 63rd Grammy Awards. The album featured the song "Circles", which became his fourth number-one song on the Billboard Hot 100. His fourth and fifth albums, Twelve Carat Toothache (2022) and Austin (2023), both reached number two on the Billboard 200. They continued his success. Twelve Carat Toothache had top ten songs like "I Like You (A Happier Song)" (featuring Doja Cat) and "One Right Now" (with the Weeknd). The album Austin explored pop rock music and included the top 15 song, "Chemical".
In 2024, two of his singles debuted at number one on the Billboard Hot 100. These were his song "Fortnight" with Taylor Swift, and his first country pop song, "I Had Some Help" (featuring Morgan Wallen). "I Had Some Help" was the first song from his sixth album, F-1 Trillion (2024). This album continued his country music style and became his third number-one album on the Billboard 200.
Post Malone is one of the best-selling music artists. He has sold over 80 million records. His awards include eleven Billboard Music Awards, three American Music Awards, six MTV Video Music Awards, and eighteen Grammy Award nominations. He holds several Billboard chart records. He is the first solo artist to top both the Rap Airplay and Adult Contemporary charts. His song "Circles" set a record for the longest time to reach number one (41 weeks) on the Adult Contemporary chart for a solo artist. Early Life and Musical Beginnings
Malone was born on July 4, 1995, in Syracuse, New York. He was raised by his father, Richard Post, and his stepmother, Jodie. His father was a DJ when he was younger. He introduced Malone to many different types of music, including hip hop, country, and rock.
When Malone was nine years old, his family moved to Grapevine, Texas. His father became the manager of concessions for the Dallas Cowboys. Malone started playing the guitar. In 2010, he tried out for the American band Crown the Empire but was not chosen. His guitar strings broke during the audition. He said he first wanted to learn guitar because of the video game Guitar Hero.
Malone has always liked alternative rock music. In June 2017, he was a DJ at Emo Nite in Los Angeles. He played songs by the American alt-rock band My Chemical Romance. Malone said his first step into professional music was being in a heavy metal band. He later moved to softer rock and hip hop. Then he started making music using FL Studio.

Early Career and Stoney Album
Malone said he chose "Post Malone" as his stage name when he was 14 or 15. People thought the name might be a reference to basketball player Karl Malone. But Malone later explained that "Post" is his last name, and he used a "rap name generator" to get "Malone".
At 16, Malone made his first mixtape called Young and After Them Riches. He used an audio editor called Audacity. He shared it with his classmates at Grapevine High School. His classmates voted him "Most Likely to Become Famous" in his senior year. As a teenager, he also worked at a Chicken Express.
Malone later went to Tarrant County College but left. After college, he moved to Los Angeles with his friend Jason Probst, a professional game streamer.
In Los Angeles, Malone and his friends formed a music group called BLCKVRD. They recorded music together. Malone met record producers FKi 1st and Sauce Lord Rich, who formed the team FKi. He also met Rex Kudo, who produced some of Malone's songs, including "White Iverson". Malone recorded "White Iverson" two days after writing it. The song's lyrics refer to Basketball Hall of Fame player Allen Iverson. In February 2015, he uploaded it to his SoundCloud account. On July 19, 2015, Malone released a music video for "White Iverson". The song was praised by Mac Miller and Wiz Khalifa.
After "White Iverson" got one million views in a month, record labels noticed Malone. In August 2015, he signed a recording contract with Republic Records. Malone worked with famous rappers like 50 Cent, Young Thug, and Kanye West. In August 2015, he performed at Kylie Jenner's 18th birthday party. There, he met Kanye West, who liked his music. This led to Malone working with West on his song "Fade" from the album The Life of Pablo (2016). Malone also became friends with Canadian singer Justin Bieber. Beerbongs & Bentleys and Hollywood's Bleeding
In February 2017, Malone announced his next project, Beerbongs & Bentleys. It was planned for December but was released in 2018. In September, Malone released the first song from the album, "Rockstar", featuring 21 Savage. The song reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 and stayed there for eight weeks. Rolling Stone said in 2017 that he was "one of the most popular musicians in the country". In November, Malone released the music video for "Rockstar".
On February 20, 2018, Malone showed a new song with Ty Dolla Sign called "Psycho". "Psycho" was released on February 23, 2018. A tour with 21 Savage was also announced. The song started at number 2 on the Billboard Hot 100. It became Malone's third song in the top 10. It later reached number one in June, becoming his second number-one hit. On April 5, 2018, Malone said Beerbongs & Bentleys would be released on April 27, 2018. He also played the song "Stay" at a Bud Lite Dive Bar show. In August, Malone broke Michael Jackson's record for most weeks on Billboard's Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. On March 12, 2020, Malone's concert at Denver's Pepsi Center happened as planned. It had 20,000 people. This was likely the last big indoor gathering in the U.S. before COVID-19 pandemic lockdowns. Future U.S. tour dates in March were postponed by Live Nation.
On April 24, 2020, Malone said a new album was being made during a live performance. In late April 2020, Malone performed a live-streamed set of Nirvana songs from his home. Malone sang and played rhythm guitar. He was joined by drummer Travis Barker, bassist Brian Lee, and lead guitarist Nick Mac. The performance raised over US$5 million for the World Health Organization's COVID-19 relief fund. Nirvana's surviving members Krist Novoselic and Dave Grohl, and Kurt Cobain's widow Courtney Love, praised the performance.
In June 2020, Malone was featured on Tyla Yaweh's song, "Tommy Lee". A remix of the song was released on July 10, 2020. It featured drums from Tommy Lee himself. Another remix with rapper Saint Jhn was also released. On April 30, 2021, Malone was on DJ Khaled's album Khaled Khaled on the song "I Did It". This song also featured DaBaby, Megan Thee Stallion, and Lil Baby.
On July 9, 2021, Malone released the single "Motley Crew" with a music video. It featured guest stars and friends like Tommy Lee, Tyga, Tyla Yaweh, and his manager Dre London. On November 5, Malone released "One Right Now" with the Weeknd. This was the first single from his fourth album. On January 26, 2022, Malone told Billboard that his fourth album would be called Twelve Carat Toothache. In April 2022, Republic Records relaunched Mercury Records with Post Malone as an artist. On April 27, 2022, Post said Twelve Carat Toothache would be released on June 3, 2022. Malone released the album's second single, "Cooped Up" with Roddy Ricch, on May 12, 2022.
On May 14, 2022, he was a musical guest on Saturday Night Live. He performed "Cooped Up" with Ricch. He also performed an unreleased song called "Love/Hate Letter to Alcohol" with Fleet Foxes. Malone had said he worked with Fleet Foxes frontman Robin Pecknold on a song for the album.

In April 2023, Malone announced he was working on a new album. On April 14, Malone released "Chemical". This was the first single from his fifth album. On April 21, 2023, Malone released The Diamond Collection. This was a collection of nine songs, including his eight RIAA Diamond-certified singles and "Chemical". On April 21, 2023, Malone and The Kid Laroi appeared on "What You Say". This song was on YoungBoy Never Broke Again's album, Don't Try This At Home.
On May 16, 2023, Malone announced his fifth album, Austin, would be released on July 28, 2023. On May 19, "Mourning" was released as the second single. On July 14, the third single, "Overdrive", was released. On September 8, the fourth single "Enough Is Enough" was released. The song reached number 25 on the Billboard Hot 100.
F-1 Trillion and Recent Projects
On February 11, 2024, Malone performed "America the Beautiful" at the Super Bowl LVIII. On February 5, the song list for Taylor Swift's album, The Tortured Poets Department, was shared. It showed Malone on the first song "Fortnight". He later posted about it on social media. The album was released on April 19, 2024. "Fortnight" was chosen as the main single, and its music video was released the same day. On its release day, "Fortnight" set a Spotify record for the most streams in a single day for any song. It passed Mariah Carey's "All I Want for Christmas Is You" (1994).
On March 29, 2024, Malone was featured on the song "Levii's Jeans" from Beyoncé's album, Cowboy Carter. On May 2, 2024, Malone announced his next single, "I Had Some Help" (featuring Morgan Wallen), which was released on May 10. This song was added to country radio stations 167 times in its first week. It was the second song ever to be added by so many stations in its first week. It also broke Spotify's record for country music streams in one day, with almost 14 million streams. On July 26, Malone released the third single from the album, "Guy for That" (featuring Luke Combs). On December 25, Malone and Beyoncé performed "Levii's Jeans" live during Beyoncé's 2024 NFL Halftime Show.
Musical Style and Influences
Malone's music includes hip hop, pop-rap, pop, R&B, trap, rap rock, and cloud rap. His music has been called a "melting pot" of country, grunge, and hip hop. Malone himself has been described as very flexible in his music style. His singing style is often described as relaxed. Jon Caramanica of The New York Times said Malone is "an artist who mixes singing and rapping, and hip-hop with spooky electric folk". Malone himself calls his music "genre-less," meaning it doesn't fit into just one category.
Malone says Bob Dylan is a big influence on his music. He became interested in Dylan around age 15. He calls Dylan "a genius" and "a god". Malone has a tattoo of Dylan. He also said "Subterranean Homesick Blues" was the "first rap song". Malone has also mentioned Kurt Cobain and Johnny Cash as key influences. He also looks up to 50 Cent, whom he called a legend, Kanye West, and Key!.
Other Ventures and Interests
During Malone's Runaway Tour in 2019, he released special Bud Light beer cans in 15 cities. He also launched several lines of sunglasses with Arnette.
Since 2018, he has worked with the footwear company Crocs on several projects. The fifth and most recent collaboration was released in December 2020. In May 2020, he started his own line of French rosé wine, Maison No. 9. It was named after his favorite tarot card, the Nine of Swords. It sold out in two days. In August 2020, Post Malone invested in Envy Gaming. He became a co-owner of the organization.
Malone is a fan of the collectible trading card game Magic: The Gathering. In 2022, he worked with the publisher Wizards of the Coast to create two special card sets. These were "Secret Lair x Post Malone: Backstage Pass" and "Secret Lair x Post Malone: The Lands". The cards featured him and his tattoos. He also owns a very rare "One Ring" card, which he bought for over $2 million.
In April 2023, Malone designed the outside of a Raising Cane's restaurant in Midvale, Utah.
Malone is set to appear in the professional wrestling video game WWE 2K24 as a downloadable superstar. He also helped choose the music for the game's soundtrack.
Personal Life
As of 2019, Malone lives in Cottonwood Heights, Utah. He has a large home there.
Malone was in a three-year relationship with Ashlen Diaz, which ended in November 2018. In May 2022, Malone announced he was expecting his first child with his current girlfriend. In June, he shared on The Howard Stern Show that he and his girlfriend are engaged and had welcomed a daughter. Malone has his child's initials, "DDP", tattooed on his forehead. The song "Yours" on his album F-1 Trillion is inspired by his daughter.
Tattoos
Malone has many tattoos. He has inked some himself and also tattooed friends. As of early 2021, he has at least 78 tattoos.
Political Views
Malone has a tattoo of U.S. president John F. Kennedy on his arm. He has said that Kennedy was "the only President to speak out against the crazy corruption stuff that's going on in our government nowadays." In December 2016, Malone said he would not have been against performing at the inauguration of Donald Trump. However, he stated that neither Trump nor Hillary Clinton were good choices for president of the United States. He supported Bernie Sanders during that election.
In a November 2017 interview for Rolling Stone, Malone expressed a dislike for Trump. In the same interview, he said he has a large collection of guns. He believes it is an American right to own guns.
