Health Journey
Selena was diagnosed with lupus between 2012 and 2014. In September 2017, she shared that she had a kidney transplant. Her friend Francia Raisa donated a kidney to her. During the transplant, there was a complication. Emergency surgery was needed to build a new artery.
Selena has been open about her struggles with anxiety and depression. She started therapy in her early twenties. She also spent time in treatment facilities. When she reached 100 million Instagram followers, she felt overwhelmed. She has taken breaks from social media because of negative comments. In April 2020, she shared that she has bipolar disorder.
