The Story of Monte Carlo

Grace Bennett (Selena Gomez) is a high school student from Texas. She works as a waitress with her best friend, Emma Perkins (Katie Cassidy). They save money for a trip to Paris after graduation. Grace's older stepsister, Meg Kelly (Leighton Meester), also joins them.

A Disappointing Trip to Paris

The trip to Paris starts off badly. Their hotel room is tiny, and the tour moves too fast. They get left behind by their tour guide in the rain. The three girls find shelter in a fancy hotel.

Mistaken Identity in a Fancy Hotel

At the hotel, the staff and photographers mistake Grace for a rich British heiress. Her name is Cordelia Winthrop-Scott. Cordelia looks exactly like Grace! Cordelia leaves without attending a charity auction. She was supposed to donate an expensive Bulgari necklace.

The girls spend the night in Cordelia's luxurious suite. The next day, they fly to Monte Carlo with Cordelia's luggage. Meg is worried about this plan.

Adventures in Monte Carlo

In Monte Carlo, the girls meet Theo Marchand (Pierre Boulanger). He is the son of the person hosting Cordelia. Theo is a bit cold to them at first. He doesn't like Cordelia's spoiled attitude. But he takes them to a fancy ball.

At the ball, Grace successfully fools Cordelia's aunt, Alicia (Catherine Tate). Emma dances with a prince (Giulio Berruti). Meg meets Riley (Luke Bracey), an Australian backpacker. They had briefly met in Paris. They find they have a lot in common.

The Necklace and the Truth

Grace has to play in a polo game. Alicia notices Grace's different riding style. She calls the real Cordelia and realizes Grace is an impostor. Alicia thinks Grace was hired by Cordelia. Grace convinces Alicia not to tell anyone. She says it would harm the charity auction.

Theo starts to like "Cordelia's" honest personality. Emma's prince invites her to a party on a yacht. Emma wears the Bulgari necklace for the party. But Meg takes it for safekeeping. She accidentally leaves it in Riley's backpack. At the party, Emma realizes the prince is rude and arrogant.

Cordelia Returns

Emma's boyfriend, Owen (Cory Monteith), arrives in Monte Carlo looking for her. The real Cordelia also arrives. She sees a newspaper article about Grace at the ball. Cordelia finds her necklace is missing and calls the police.

The girls go to find Riley. He shows up at the hotel with the necklace. They find Cordelia in their room. Cordelia threatens to stop the necklace from being auctioned. The girls panic and try to stop her. They tie her to a chair so Grace can take her place at the auction.

The Auction and Happy Endings

Cordelia escapes and tells everyone about Grace's trick at the auction. She demands Grace be arrested. But Grace makes a heartfelt public confession. Alicia then bids a huge amount of €6 million for the necklace to save Grace.

The movie ends with Meg joining Riley on his travels. Owen and Emma move into their own home in Texas. Theo and Grace reunite at the Romanian school where Theo works and Grace volunteers.
