Khalif Malik Ibn Shaman Brown (born June 7, 1993), known as Swae Lee, is an American rapper, singer, and songwriter. He is famous for his wide vocal range and for mixing different music styles.
Swae Lee first became well-known as half of the hip-hop group Rae Sremmurd. He formed this group in 2010 with his brother, Slim Jxmmi. They signed with Mike Will Made It's EarDrummer Records in 2013. This record label is part of Interscope Records. They released four albums with hit songs like "No Flex Zone", "No Type", and "Black Beatles". "Black Beatles" even reached the top of the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
In 2017, Swae Lee was featured on French Montana's song "Unforgettable". This song became a top ten hit, making it his first solo success. Later that year, he was nominated for a Grammy Award. This was for helping to write Beyoncé's song "Formation".
In 2018, Swae Lee released his first solo album, Swaecation. It was part of Rae Sremmurd's triple album, SR3MM. That same year, his song "Sunflower" with Post Malone came out. It was for the movie Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. "Sunflower" reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100. It also received two Grammy nominations. Khalif Malik Ibn Shaman Brown was born on June 7, 1993, in Inglewood, California. His mother was from Nigeria and worked in the United States Army. Swae Lee grew up in Tupelo, Mississippi.
He started making music in high school. He worked with his brother Slim Jxmmi and a local rapper named Lil Pantz. They called their group "Dem Outta St8 Boyz". After high school, Swae Lee and his brother faced some challenges. They lived in an abandoned house for a time.
