What Does Badiraguato Mean?
The name Badiraguato comes from old words. It mixes words from the Cáhita and Purépecha languages. The word ba means "water," "stream," or "river." The word dira means "many." And huato means "hill."
So, Badiraguato literally means "stream of many hills." This can also be understood as "the stream of the mountains."
In ancient times, this name was given to a stream. This stream, also called Río Chico, starts in the Sierra de Los Parra mountains. It flows past the town of Badiraguato and joins other waters near the mountains.
The area around Badiraguato became an official municipality on April 8, 1915. This was made official by a state newspaper.
