Puerta de Hierro, Guadalajara facts for kids
Puerta de Hierro (which means "Iron Gate" in English) is a modern neighborhood located in Zapopan, Mexico. It's part of the larger city area known as the Guadalajara Metropolitan Area. This neighborhood was created by two important families, the Leaño family and the Gómez Flores family.
Puerta de Hierro is found in the western part of Zapopan. It covers a large area, about 500 acres. This space includes homes, a big shopping mall, and a business area. Many tall buildings can be seen here. It is known for its wealthy residents and impressive skyscrapers.
One of the tallest buildings in the area is the Aura Altitude. It is the second-tallest building in the Guadalajara metro area. Only the RIU Plaza Hotel is taller. Puerta de Hierro also has a very respected hospital called Centro Médico Puerta de Hierro.
Andares Shopping Mall
The most famous place in Puerta de Hierro is the Andares Shopping Mall. This is a very fancy shopping center. It is located on the edge of the neighborhood. Andares opened in December 2008.
Andares is one of the most exclusive malls in Mexico. It cost about US$530 million to build. You can find many famous international brands here. Some of these include Louis Vuitton, Burberry, and Dolce & Gabbana.
The area around Andares is also very developed. It includes a Hyatt Hotel and luxury apartments. These homes were designed by a famous Mexican architect, Juan Sordo Madaleno. You can also find dealerships for luxury cars here. These include Ferrari, Maserati, BMW, and Mercedes.
Growth and Value
Since the Andares mall opened, the value of land and homes in Puerta de Hierro has grown a lot. Property prices here are some of the highest in the Guadalajara area. Land can cost over US$1,000 per square meter. Apartments can range from US$300,000 to US$2,000,000. This shows how popular and valuable the neighborhood has become.
