Cher Lloyd (born 28 July 1993) is an English singer. She became famous after being on the TV talent show The X Factor in 2010. She finished in fourth place on the seventh series of the show.

After The X Factor, Cher Lloyd signed with music labels Syco Music in the UK and Epic Records in the US. Her first album, Sticks and Stones, came out in 2011. It reached number four in the UK and number nine in the US. This album had popular songs like "Swagger Jagger", which was a number one hit in the UK, "With Ur Love", and "Want U Back".

In 2014, she released her second album, Sorry I'm Late. It included the song "I Wish". After this, Cher took a break from music for a couple of years. She returned in 2016 with the song "Activated". She has continued to release new music, including "None of My Business" in 2018 and "M.I.A." in 2019.

Cher Lloyd's Early Life

Cher Lloyd was born on 28 July 1993. She grew up in Malvern, Worcestershire, England, with her parents and three younger brothers and sisters. Her family has Romani roots. When she was very young, she traveled around Wales with her parents in a caravan.

Cher went to The Chase School and later Dyson Perrins High School. She studied performing arts and also attended a theater school called Stagecoach.

How Cher Lloyd Started: The X Factor (2010–2011)

Before The X Factor, Cher performed at holiday camps. When she auditioned for The X Factor, she sang "Turn My Swag On". At the judges' houses stage, she performed "Cooler Than Me" but had tonsillitis and couldn't finish.

During the live shows, Cher performed many different songs. She sang "Just Be Good to Me", "Hard Knock Life (Ghetto Anthem)", and a mix of "No Diggity" and "Shout". In week four, she sang "Stay" without rapping, and judge Simon Cowell called it "the performance of the series."

Cher made it to the semi-final, where she sang "Nothin' on You" and "Love the Way You Lie". She was saved by the judges and went to the final. In the final, she performed a mix of "The Clapping Song" and "Get Ur Freak On". She also sang a duet with will.i.am. Cher Lloyd finished in fourth place after getting the fewest public votes.

After The X Factor, Cher and nine other contestants went on the X Factor Live Tour. She performed for many people across the UK from February to April 2011.

First Album Success: Sticks and Stones (2011–2012)

After The X Factor, Cher Lloyd signed with Syco Music. She started recording her first album. On 28 July 2011, she gave fans a sneak peek of five songs from the album.

Her first song, "Swagger Jagger", came out in July 2011 and went straight to number one on the UK Singles Chart. It sold over 300,000 copies in the UK. Her first album, Sticks + Stones, was released on 4 November 2011. It reached number four in the UK.

The second song from the album was "With Ur Love", featuring American singer Mike Posner. It reached number four in the UK. The third song, "Want U Back", featured rapper Astro.

In November 2011, Cher announced her first tour in the UK, called the Sticks and Stones Tour. It took place in March and April 2012. She also signed a record deal with L.A. Reid at Epic Records in the United States. A solo version of "Want U Back" became her first song released in the US. It reached number 12 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. By February 2013, the song had sold over 2 million copies in the US.

Her second US song, "Oath", featured American rapper Becky G. It did well in New Zealand, reaching number 13. The US and Australian versions of Sticks and Stones came out on 2 October 2012. This version reached number nine in the US.

Second Album and Break: Sorry I'm Late (2013–2015)

After Sticks + Stones, Cher started working on her second album. In January 2013, she appeared as a guest star on the TV show Big Time Rush. In November 2013, Cher shared that she had left Syco Music. She also said her new album, which was supposed to come out in November, would be delayed until early 2014.

Her I Wish Tour happened in the fall of 2013, with the girl group Fifth Harmony as the opening act. In May 2014, Cher was featured on the song "Really Don't Care" by Demi Lovato. This song became very popular, reaching number one on the US Dance chart.

Cher's second album, Sorry I'm Late, was released on 23 May 2014. It reached number 12 on the US Billboard 200 chart and number 21 in the UK. The main song from the album was "I Wish", featuring American rapper T.I.. The second song was "Sirens".

After Sorry I'm Late came out, Cher signed a new deal with Universal Music Group. She began working on her third album.

Return to Music (2016–Present)

In March 2016, Cher Lloyd shared a video with her fans, thanking them for being patient. She said her third album was almost ready. On 22 July 2016, she released her new song, "Activated". In May 2017, she announced she had signed with ie:music.

In 2018, she sang on the song "4U" by Joakim Molitor. On 19 October 2018, Cher released the song "None of My Business" with a music video. On 11 October 2019, she released "M.I.A". These songs are expected to be on her upcoming third album. On 24 April 2020, she released the song "Lost". Her newest song, "Head Down", came out on 17 January 2025.
