Cher Lloyd (born July 28, 1993) is an English singer. She became famous after appearing on the TV talent show The X Factor in 2010. She finished in fourth place on the seventh series of the show. After The X Factor, Cher Lloyd signed with record labels Syco Music in the UK and Epic Records in the US.
Her first album, Sticks and Stones, came out in 2011. It reached number four on the UK Albums Chart. A special US version of the album debuted at number nine on the Billboard 200 chart. This album included popular songs like "Swagger Jagger", which hit number one in the UK, "With Ur Love", and "Want U Back".
Cher Lloyd released her second album, Sorry I'm Late, in 2014. The main song from this album was "I Wish". This album did not become as popular as her first one. It reached number 21 in the UK and number 12 on the Billboard 200. After working with singer Demi Lovato on the song "Really Don't Care", Cher took a break from music for two years.
In July 2016, she released the song "Activated". This song was like a message to her fans, saying she was back and stronger. She later released "None of My Business" in 2018 and "M.I.A." in 2019. Cher Lloyd was born on July 28, 1993. She grew up in Malvern, Worcestershire, England. Her parents are Darren and Diane Lloyd. She has three younger siblings: Sophie, Josh, and Rosie.
Her family has Romani roots. Cher spent her first year traveling around Wales in a caravan with her parents. Her uncle shared that she was sometimes teased at school because of her background. She had tonsillitis and could not finish the song.
In the live shows, Cher performed many songs. These included "Just Be Good to Me" and "Hard Knock Life (Ghetto Anthem)". She also sang a mix of "No Diggity" and "Shout". In week four, she sang "Stay" without rapping. Simon Cowell called it "the performance of the series."
Later, she sang "Empire State of Mind" and a mix of "Sorry Seems to Be the Hardest Word" and "Mockingbird". In week seven, she was in the bottom two for the first time after singing "Imagine". But the judges saved her. She made it to the semi-final and then the final. In the final, she performed a mix of "The Clapping Song" and "Get Ur Freak On". She also sang a duet with will.i.am. First Album: Sticks and Stones (2011-2012)
After The X Factor finale, Cher Lloyd signed with Syco Music. She started recording her first album. She worked with songwriters like Autumn Rowe and producers like RedOne. On July 28, 2011, Cher showed five songs from her album online. These included songs with Busta Rhymes and Mike Posner.
Her first song, "Swagger Jagger", came out in July 2011. It quickly reached number one on the UK Singles Chart. Over 303,000 copies were sold in Britain. In Ireland, it reached number two.
Cher's first album, Sticks + Stones, was released on November 4, 2011. It entered the UK Albums Chart at number four. The album sold over 55,000 copies in its first week. The second song, "With Ur Love", featured American singer Mike Posner. It debuted at number four on the UK Singles Chart.
The third song, "Want U Back", featured American rapper Astro. In December 2011, Cher signed a deal with L.A. Reid at Epic Records in the United States. A solo version of "Want U Back" became her first song released in the US. It came out in May 2012 and reached number 12 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. By February 2013, it had sold over 2 million copies in the US.
Her second US song, "Oath", featured American rapper Becky G. It did not become as popular as "Want U Back". The American and Australian versions of Sticks and Stones were released on October 2, 2012. This album reached number nine in the US. In October 2012, Cher supported the band Hot Chelle Rae on their tour in Australia.
Second Album: Sorry I'm Late and Break (2013-2015)
After Sticks + Stones, Cher started working on her second album. She worked with new songwriters like Beth Ditto and Tove Lo. In January 2013, Cher announced she would appear on the TV show Big Time Rush. In April 2013, she said she would work with Ne-Yo on a song called "It's All Good".
In November 2013, Cher confirmed she had left Syco Music. She and Simon Cowell had different ideas about her music career. She also said her album, which was supposed to come out in November, was delayed until early 2014. Her I Wish Tour happened in the fall of 2013, with the group Fifth Harmony opening for her.
In May 2014, Cher was featured on "Really Don't Care" by Demi Lovato. This song became very popular, reaching number one on the US Dance chart.
Cher's second album, Sorry I'm Late, was released on May 23, 2014. It reached number 12 on the US Billboard 200 chart. The main song, "I Wish", featured American rapper T.I.. The second song, "Sirens", also charted. The album sold 41,000 copies in the US.
After Sorry I'm Late was released, Cher was no longer listed on Epic's website. This made people think she had left the label. In November 2014, it was announced that Cher had signed a new deal with Universal Music Group. She began working on her third album.
Recent Music (2016-Present)
Cher Lloyd returned to music in March 2016. She posted a video saying thank you to her patient fans and that her new album was almost ready. On July 15, 2016, she hinted at her new song, "Activated", which came out on July 22, 2016. In May 2017, Cher announced she had signed with ie:music.
In 2018, she sang on the song "4U" by Swedish producer Joakim Molitor. On October 19, 2018, Cher released the song "None of My Business" with a music video. On October 11, 2019, she released "M.I.A". On April 24, 2020, Cher premiered the song "Lost" and its music video. She released her new single "Head Down" on January 17, 2025, and "Green Light" on April 4, 2025.
