The Story of Sony Music Latin
The company started in 1980 as CBS Discos. Before that, CBS Records worked with another company called Caytronics for 11 years. But in 1979, CBS Records decided to stop that partnership. They wanted to create their own music division just for Latin music.
In 1988, a big company called Sony bought CBS Records. Because of this, CBS Discos changed its name in 1991 to Sony Discos.
Later, in 2003, Sony Discos got a new name again: Sony Norte. This happened after its president, Oscar Llord, left the company. Just one year later, in 2004, another big music company, Bertelsmann Music Group (BMG), joined with Sony Music. So, Sony Norte became Sony BMG Norte.
Finally, in 2008, BMG sold its part of the company. In 2009, Sony BMG Norte changed its name one last time to what it is today: Sony Music Latin. The person in charge right now, the President of Sony Music Latin, is Alex Gallardo.
