The Story of Sony Music Latin
The record label has a long history and has changed its name several times. It's like a character in a story that has grown and evolved over the years!
The Early Days as CBS Discos
The story begins in 1980. A big company called CBS Records (which is now Columbia Records) decided to create its own special team for Latin music. They called it CBS Discos. "Discos" is the Spanish word for "records."
Becoming Part of Sony
In 1988, the Sony Corporation bought CBS Records. A few years later, in 1991, they renamed the Latin music division to Sony Discos. It continued to sign and support many talented Latin artists.
More Name Changes
The label kept growing and changing.
- In 2003, it was renamed Sony Norte.
- In 2004, Sony Music joined with another big music company, BMG. The label's name changed again to Sony BMG Norte.
- Finally, in 2009, the company became what it is today: Sony Music Latin.
Through all these changes, the label's main goal has stayed the same: to bring amazing Latin music to fans everywhere. The current president of Sony Music Latin is Alex Gallardo.
