Alejandro Fernández Abarca (born 24 April 1971) is a famous Mexican singer. He was born in Guadalajara, Jalisco, and is the son of the legendary Mexican singer Vicente Fernández. People often call him "El Potrillo", which means "The Colt".

Alejandro has sold over 20 million records around the world. This makes him one of the top-selling Latin music artists. He started his career singing traditional Mexican folk music, like mariachi and charro songs. Later, he also became very successful in pop music. Throughout his career, he has won four Latin Grammy Awards and has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Alejandro Fernández's Music Journey

Starting Out as a Singer

Alejandro Fernández was born in Guadalajara, Jalisco. He first appeared on stage in 1976 during one of his father's shows.

He released his first album, Alejandro Fernández, with Sony Music. Some of its popular songs were "Necesito olvidarla" and "Brumas". After this, Alejandro went on tour in Mexico and parts of the United States. In 1993, he performed with his father at the Palacio de los Deportes in Mexico City. That same year, Alejandro released another successful album called Piel de Niña. Songs like "Piel de Niña" and "A La Vera del Camino" were big hits from this album.

In 1994, he released Grandes Éxitos a la Manera de Alejandro Fernández. This album featured his versions of songs by famous composers like Armando Manzanero.

Becoming a Star: 1995–1998

In 1995, Alejandro released Que Seas Muy Feliz. The song "Como Quien Pierde Una Estrella" became his first international hit. It was played a lot on radio and TV.

His 1996 album, Muy Dentro de Mi Corazón, was also a big success. Songs like "Nube Viajera" and "Abrazame" became popular in Mexico and other Latin American countries. That year, he also sang "Puedes Llegar", the theme song for the 1996 Atlanta Olympics. He sang it with other stars like Gloria Estefan and Ricky Martin.

In 1997, he recorded Me Estoy Enamorando. This album mixed bolero music, romantic ballads, and mariachi sounds. "Si Tú Supieras" was the biggest hit from this album. It was even chosen as the theme song for a popular TV show called "Maria Isabel". The album was very popular in the U.S. too, with "Si tu supieras" staying at the top of the Billboard Hot Latin Tracks for weeks. Me Estoy Enamorando sold over 2 million copies worldwide. In 1998, he recorded Christmas in Vienna VI with Plácido Domingo.

New Sounds and Live Shows: 1999–2003

With his 1999 album Mi Verdad, Alejandro returned to his roots in ranchera music. "Si He Sabido Amor" became a big hit and was the theme song for the TV show Infierno en el Paraíso.

In 2000, he released Entre Tus Brazos. This album featured mostly romantic ballads with lively Latin rhythms. For the first time, he included a song he wrote himself, also called "Entre Tus Brazos". He also sang "Dos Corazones, Dos Historias" with Julio Iglesias.

In 2001, he recorded Orígenes, and the song "Tantina Pena" became an international hit. In 2002, he released Un Canto De México, which had 22 classic ranchera songs. It was recorded live at the Palacio de Bellas Artes. In 2003, Alejandro toured Latin America with his father, Vicente. They recorded a show called "En Vivo: Juntos Por Ultima Vez" for thousands of fans. That same year, he recorded Niña amada mía. The title song became a hit and was the theme for a popular TV show.

Movies and More Hits: 2004–2006

In 2004, Alejandro played the main role in Zapata: El sueño del héroe. This movie was about the Mexican revolutionary hero Emiliano Zapata. That same year, he released A Corazón Abierto. This album featured songs about lost love and finding love again. Alejandro said it was "an x-ray of myself." Hit songs from this album included "¿Que voy a hacer con mi amor?" and "Me dediqué a perderte".

In 2005, Alejandro released México - Madrid: En Directo Y Sin Escalas, which was filmed live in Spain. He sang with Spanish artists like Amaia Montero and Malú. He also performed with famous tenors José Carreras and Plácido Domingo at a special concert. On December 2, 2005, Alejandro received a star on the famous Hollywood Walk of Fame in Los Angeles.

New Collaborations: 2007–2010

In 2007, he released Viento A Favor. This album included songs by popular songwriters. The first two singles were "Te Voy A Perder" and "Amor Gitano", a duet with Beyoncé.

In 2009, Alejandro's voice was used for the theme song of Mañana es para siempre, a very popular Mexican TV show. He also sang a duet called "Sueños" with the Grammy-winning singer Nelly Furtado for her album Mi Plan.

His 2009 project, Dos Mundos (meaning Two Worlds), was special. He released two albums at the same time: one was pop, and the other was ranchera and mariachi. No other Latin artist had done this before! He released music videos for songs like "Estuve" and "Se Me Va la Voz" at the same time. In 2010, he released Dos Mundos: Revolución, a live album with songs from his Dos Mundos project.

Recent Years: 2011–Present

From June to August 2011, Alejandro went on his Dos Mundos: Revolucion Tour. He also released "Bajo un mismo sol" as the theme song for the 2011 Pan American Games. He toured Latin America with Marc Anthony in a series of concerts called Dos Mundos, un Concierto.

Alejandro sang a duet with Christina Aguilera called "Hoy Tengo Ganas de Ti". This song became the theme for the TV show "La tempestad" and quickly became very popular in Mexico. On August 27, 2013, he released the album Confidencias. It included duets with Christina Aguilera, his father Vicente Fernández, and even Rod Stewart.

In 2014, his song "Te Amare" was the theme song for the TV show "Hasta el fin del mundo". In 2015, he collaborated with Alejandro Sanz on "A que no me dejas", which was also a TV show theme. In 2016, Alejandro Fernández was honored and added to the Billboard Latin Music Hall of Fame. In February 2017, he released the album Rompiendo Fronteras, and the song "Sé que te duele" became an instant hit.

In 2023, Alejandro announced his "Amor y Patria" (Love and Country) tour. It started in California and included shows in Texas.

Alejandro Fernández's Style

Following his father's path, Alejandro Fernández began his singing career focusing on ranchera music. But after his 1997 album Me Estoy Enamorando, he successfully started singing pop music too. In his live shows, he often starts with his ranchera songs. Then, he changes out of his traditional charro outfit to perform his pop hits.

Alejandro has a strong voice that can sing many different kinds of music. He can sing romantic ballads, pop songs, and ranchera music all at once. Alejandro Fernández's Life

Alejandro Fernández first studied to become an architect. But in 1991, with his father's encouragement, he decided to become a singer. He is the youngest son in his family. He has two older brothers, Vicente, Jr., and Gerardo, and a sister, Alejandra. Alejandro and his brothers are known in Mexico as "Los tres potrillos," which means "The three colts."

Alejandro is a co-owner of a shopping center in Guadalajara called "Unicenter." He also worked with his family to build Arena VFG, a large arena that can hold 11,000 people. This arena is used for music concerts and charreria competitions. Alejandro is very skilled at horse riding and charreria. He is also a big fan of the Mexican football team Atlas.

Alejandro Fernández has five children: Alejandro, Jr., twin girls América and Camila, Emiliano, and Valentina.
