Estopa facts for kids

Estopa is a super popular music duo from Cornellà, Spain. This amazing band is made up of two brothers, José and David Muñoz. They sing songs that mix different styles, like rock, rumba, and flamenco.

Their first album, also called Estopa, sold over 1,000,000 copies! That's a huge number. Their album Voces de Ultrarumba sold more than 200,000 copies on its very first day. Their music has made them one of the most successful rock groups in Spanish history.

Meet the Estopa Brothers

José Muñoz is the younger brother, born in 1978. He plays the guitar for Estopa. David Muñoz is the older brother, born in 1976. He is the main singer and also plays some guitar. Both brothers were born in Extremadura, Spain.

They grew up in Cornellà, but their parents were from Zarza Capilla. On trips to visit family, they listened to cool bands like Los Chichos, Los Chunguitos, and Bordón. This music helped shape their own unique sound.

How Estopa Started Making Music

After finishing school, José and David tried going to college. But they soon realized it wasn't the right path for them. So, they decided to work at a factory that made car parts for a company called SEAT.

It was during their time at the factory that they started writing their first songs. They would often play their new music in local bars. People loved their sound! One day, they played a song for some people from BMG Music España. The music bosses were so impressed that Estopa got a record deal! This was the start of their amazing journey in music.
