Cody Robert Simpson (born on January 11, 1997) is an Australian singer, actor, and a former competitive swimmer. He became famous for his music and later for his swimming skills. Cody has released four solo albums: Paradise (2012), Surfers Paradise (2013), Free (2015), and Cody Simpson (2022).
He also acted on Broadway in the musical Anastasia from November 2018 to April 2019. In 2019, he won the first season of The Masked Singer Australia as "Robot". In 2022, Cody joined the Australian Swim Team and competed in the Commonwealth Games. He stopped competitive swimming in June 2024.

Early Life and Discovering Music
Cody Simpson was born on January 11, 1997, in Benowa, a suburb on the Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia. His parents are Brad and Angie Simpson. He has two younger siblings, Alli and Tom. Cody went to All Saints Anglican School when he was growing up.
In 2009, Cody started sharing his songs on YouTube. He sang covers of popular songs like "I'm Yours" by Jason Mraz and "Cry Me a River" by Justin Timberlake. He also covered "I Want You Back" by The Jackson 5 and "Wanted Dead or Alive" by Bon Jovi.
Music Career Highlights
Starting Out: 2009-2011
Cody Simpson's journey to fame was shown on The 7.30 Report in Australia in December 2009. His first song, "iYiYi" (featuring rapper Flo Rida), came out on May 15, 2010. The music video for his second song, "Summertime," was released in September 2010.
In June 2010, Cody and his family moved to Los Angeles to work on his music with Atlantic Records. He also appeared on the TV show Sunrise. Cody joined the Camplified 2010 Tour across the United States, which ran from July to August 2010. He also toured middle schools in nine USA states.
His first collection of songs, an EP called 4 U, was released on December 21, 2010. It had five songs, including four new ones. Cody also recorded a new version of "I Want Candy" for the movie Hop. In May 2011, Cody started the Waiting 4U tour with American singer Greyson Chance. The tour lasted from April to May 2011.
His second EP, Coast to Coast, was released on September 20, 2011. It reached number 12 on the Billboard 200 chart. In August 2011, he performed on The Today Show. He then started his Coast to Coast Mall Tour to promote his EP. In September, Cody hired Justin Bieber's manager, Scooter Braun.
Albums and Dancing: 2012-2014

On June 12, 2012, Cody released Preview to Paradise, an EP with four songs from his first full album, Paradise. The album came out on October 2, 2012. In early 2013, Cody toured Europe, performing his own shows and supporting Justin Bieber on his Believe Tour.
His album Surfers Paradise, released on July 16, 2013, was his first album to reach the top 10 on the Billboard 200 chart. In the summer of 2013, Cody led the Paradise Tour. On November 19, 2013, he released an acoustic album called The Acoustic Sessions.
In March 2014, Cody joined the 18th season of Dancing with the Stars. He danced with professional Witney Carson. He was eliminated in Week 5 and finished in ninth place. From June to July 2014, Cody went on an acoustic tour in Europe with singer Jackson Harris. In August 2014, Cody announced he had left Warner/Atlantic Records to pursue his music independently.
New Band and Solo Return: 2015-Present
Cody's album Free was released on July 10, 2015. It was his first album as an independent artist. He performed the first song, "Flower," on Good Morning America. The album was produced by Cisco Adler. In November 2015, Cody took a break from his solo career to start a new band with his friends Adrian Cota and Khari Mateen.
In 2017, Cody formed a new band called Cody Simpson and the Tide. They released their first song, "Waiting for the Tide." The band included Cody on vocals and guitar, Adrian Cota on drums, and Shareef "Reef" Addo on bass. Their first EP, Wave One, came out in late 2017. The band's music mixed pop, rock, blues, and surf-rock. In August 2018, they released the "Underwater" music video. The band toured Southern California in October 2018. They split up in early 2019.
After the band, Cody returned to his solo career. He released the song Golden Thing in October 2019. In the same year, he won The Masked Singer Australia as the "Robot." In April 2022, Cody released a self-titled album, his first in six years. He also released music videos for "Nice To Meet You" and "Let Go." In November 2022, Cody performed the Australian National Anthem at the Lexus Melbourne Cup and the AFL Women's Grand Final. He also sang "The Christmas Song" at the 85th annual Carols by Candlelight in December 2022.
Acting Career
In 2014, Cody Simpson made his TV acting debut playing himself in the show Instant Mom. In 2015, he appeared in the sitcom Cougar Town as a high school student named Pete. That same year, he was in the Nickelodeon movie One Crazy Cruise, playing a love interest.
In late 2017, Cody was cast in the thriller film Smiley Face Killers. In October 2018, Cody made his Broadway debut as the lead male character, Dmitry, in the musical Anastasia.
Swimming Career (2019-2024)
Early Swimming Days
Cody Simpson was a very good swimmer when he was younger. He trained at the Miami Swimming Club. In 2009, he won two gold medals at the Queensland Swimming Championships.
Returning to the Pool
In 2019, Cody decided to focus on competitive swimming again. He joined the University of Southern California's Trojan Swim Elite team. In October 2019, he competed in his first swim meet in almost ten years. He trained with different coaches, including two-time Olympian Brett Hawke. In December 2020, Cody announced he had qualified for the Australian Olympic trials in the 100-meter butterfly.
Cody starred in a swimming documentary called Head Above Water, released on June 4, 2021, on Amazon Prime Video. In February 2023, Cody and his Griffith University teammates won the Rottnest Channel Swim, setting a new team record.
Australian Swimming Trials and Championships
Cody continued to improve leading up to the 2021 Australian Swimming Trials in June 2021. He swam his best time in the 100-meter freestyle but did not reach the finals. In the 100-meter butterfly, he qualified for the final but finished eighth, missing out on the Tokyo Olympics. After the trials, Cody moved back to Australia and began training with coach Michael Bohl at Griffith University.
At the 2022 Australian Swimming Championships in May 2022, Cody qualified for the 100-meter butterfly final and placed third. He also competed in the 50-meter butterfly and 100-meter freestyle.
Commonwealth Games Success
Cody Simpson was chosen for the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, England, on May 22, 2022. He competed in the 50-meter butterfly. He was also part of the 4 × 100 meter freestyle relay team, helping Australia win a gold medal. In the 100-meter butterfly, he reached the final and finished fifth. Cody also helped the 4 × 100 meter medley relay team win a silver medal.
At the 2022 Australian Short Course Swimming Championships in August 2022, Cody competed in five events. He won a gold medal in the 100-meter individual medley, being the first Australian to finish. In June 2024, Cody retired from competitive swimming after not qualifying for the Paris Olympics.
Other Activities
In 2012, Cody Simpson became a brand ambassador for Build-A-Bear Workshop. A year later, he supported Teen Cancer America. In June 2017, he was named the first United Nations Development Programme advocate for oceans. He also became a brand ambassador for Bonds clothing. He is signed with IMG Models.
In February 2020, Cody appeared in Australia's new Bonds "WeGotsYou" campaign. He released a book of poetry called Prince Neptune in April 2020. In August 2020, Cody signed with talent agency ICM Partners. In 2021, he worked with Myer for their fashion campaigns. In July 2022, he signed a deal with the Australian swimwear brand, Speedo. Cody launched his own sustainable clothing line, Prince Neptune: The Label, in August 2022. In 2024, he launched his own energy drink line called Dr.Hydrate.
Personal Life
Cody Simpson has several tattoos on his body. These include symbols representing the sun, water, and earth, an anchor, and a small drawing of Elvis Presley.
Cody has dated several people. He dated Kylie Jenner in 2011. He was with Gigi Hadid from 2013 to 2015. From October 2019 to August 2020, he dated Miley Cyrus. He then dated Marloes Stevens from December 2020 to January 2022. In April 2022, Cody began dating fellow Australian swimmer, Emma McKeon.
