Cody Robert Simpson (born 11 January 1997) is a talented Australian singer, actor, and a former competitive swimmer. He became famous by sharing his music online. Cody has released four solo albums, including Paradise (2012) and Surfers Paradise (2013).
He also performed on Broadway in the musical Anastasia. In 2019, he won the first season of The Masked Singer Australia as "Robot". In 2022, Cody joined the Australian Swim Team and competed at the Commonwealth Games. He stopped competitive swimming in June 2024.

Early Life and Online Start
Cody Simpson was born on 11 January 1997 in Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia. His parents are Brad and Angie, and he has two younger siblings, Alli and Tom. He went to All Saints Anglican School.
In 2009, Cody started uploading videos of himself singing to YouTube. He sang cover songs by famous artists like Jason Mraz and Justin Timberlake. This is how he first got noticed by many people.

Starting Out: 2009–2011
Cody's rise to fame was even shown on an Australian TV show in December 2009. He released his first song, "iYiYi", in May 2010, which featured rapper Flo Rida. Later that year, his music video for "Summertime" came out.
In June 2010, Cody and his family moved to Los Angeles so he could record music with Atlantic Records. He also went on tours across the United States, meeting many fans. In December 2010, he released an EP called 4 U. He also recorded "I Want Candy" for the movie Hop.
In 2011, Cody went on the Waiting 4U tour with American singer Greyson Chance. His second EP, Coast to Coast, was released in September 2011. It sold well and reached number 12 on the Billboard 200 chart. Around this time, he also started working with Justin Bieber's manager, Scooter Braun.
Albums and Dancing: 2012–2014

In 2012, Cody released an EP called Preview to Paradise, which had songs from his first full album, Paradise. This album came out in October 2012.
In 2013, Cody toured Europe and supported Justin Bieber on some of his shows. His next album, Surfers Paradise, was released in July 2013. This album was very successful, becoming his first to reach the top 10 on the Billboard 200 chart. He also released an acoustic album called The Acoustic Sessions.
In 2014, Cody competed on the 18th season of Dancing with the Stars. He was partnered with professional dancer Witney Carson and finished in ninth place. Later that year, Cody decided to leave Warner/Atlantic Records to pursue his music independently.
New Sounds and a Band: 2015–2018
Cody's album Free was released in July 2015. This was his first album as an independent artist, released through his own label, Coast House. He worked with artists like G. Love and Donavon Frankenreiter on the album.
In 2017, Cody formed a new band called Cody Simpson and the Tide. The band included Cody on vocals and guitar, Adrian Cota on drums, and Shareef "Reef" Addo on bass. They released their first EP, Wave One, which mixed pop, rock, blues, and surf-rock music. Their songs often talked about love, unity, and protecting the ocean. The band broke up in early 2019.
Back to Solo Work: 2019–Present
After his band split, Cody returned to his solo music career. In October 2019, he released the song Golden Thing. That same year, he won The Masked Singer Australia as the "Robot".
In April 2022, Cody released a new self-titled album, his first in six years. He recorded it during a break from his swimming training. He also released music videos for his singles "Nice To Meet You" and "Let Go". In late 2022, Cody performed the Australian National Anthem at the Lexus Melbourne Cup and sang at the annual Carols by Candlelight event.
Acting Career
Cody has also appeared in several TV shows and films. In 2014, he made his TV debut in the sitcom Instant Mom. In 2015, he was a guest star on Cougar Town and appeared in the Nickelodeon movie One Crazy Cruise.
In 2017, Cody had a supporting role in the thriller film Smiley Face Killers. In October 2018, he made his big debut on Broadway as the lead male role, Dmitry, in the musical Anastasia. In 2021, he starred in the swimming documentary Head Above Water.
Swimming Career (2019–2024)
Early Swimming Days
Before his music career took off, Cody was a very good swimmer. He trained at the Miami Swimming Club and won two gold medals at the 2009 Queensland Swimming Championships.
Return to the Pool
In 2019, Cody decided to focus on competitive swimming again. He joined the University of Southern California's swim team. He worked hard to improve his technique, training with different coaches, including two-time Olympian Brett Hawke. In December 2020, Cody announced that he had qualified for the Australian Olympic trials in the 100-meter butterfly.
Australian Swimming Trials and Commonwealth Games
Cody continued to improve, competing in the 2021 Australian Swimming Trials in June 2021. He swam a personal best in the 100-meter freestyle. In the 100-meter butterfly, he reached the final but did not qualify for the Tokyo Olympics. After the trials, he moved back to Australia to train with coach Michael Bohl.
In May 2022, Cody competed in the 2022 Australian Swimming Championships. He placed third in the 100-meter butterfly. This led to him being selected for the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, England.
At the 2022 Commonwealth Games, Cody competed in several events. He helped Australia win a gold medal in the 4 × 100 metre freestyle relay. He also earned a silver medal as part of the 4 × 100 metre medley relay. In the 100-meter butterfly, he reached the final and finished fifth.
In August 2022, at the 2022 Australian Short Course Swimming Championships, Cody won a gold medal in the 100-meter individual medley, being the first Australian to finish. In June 2024, Cody announced he was stepping away from competitive swimming after not qualifying for the Paris Olympics.
Other Projects
Cody has also been involved in many other projects. In 2012, he became an ambassador for Build-A-Bear Workshop. He also became an ambassador for Teen Cancer America in 2013. In 2017, he was named the first United Nations Development Programme advocate for oceans, showing his passion for environmental protection.
He has worked with clothing brands like Bonds and Myer. In 2020, he released a book of poetry called Prince Neptune. Cody also launched his own sustainable clothing line, Prince Neptune: The Label, in 2022, and an energy nutrition drink line called Dr.Hydrate in 2024.
