Greyson Michael Chance (born August 16, 1997) is an American singer and songwriter. He became famous in 2010 when he was a child singer. His performance of Lady Gaga's "Paparazzi" became a viral video on YouTube. It quickly gained over 72 million views.

Two of his own songs, "Stars" and "Broken Hearts", also became very popular. They received over six and eight million views on his channel. He then signed a music contract with Ellen DeGeneres' record label, eleveneleven. This label was part of Maverick, Streamline, and Geffen Records. He released his first song, "Waiting Outside the Lines", in October 2010.

His first album, Hold On 'til the Night, came out in 2011. It reached number 29 on the Billboard 200 chart. This was his only album to appear on that chart.

Greyson Chance released his second collection of songs, called an extended play (EP), Somewhere Over My Head, in May 2016. Before that, he released singles like "Afterlife", "Hit & Run", and "Back on the Wall". Later, he released his second album, Portraits (2019), on his own. This album featured a style called synth-pop. Singles from this album included "Shut Up" and "Timekeeper".

Early Life and Music Beginnings

Greyson Chance was born on August 16, 1997, in Wichita Falls, Texas. He grew up in Edmond, Oklahoma. He is the youngest of three children. Both his older sister and brother also enjoy making music.

Greyson started playing the piano when he was eight years old. He took piano lessons for several years before he became famous online.

How Greyson Became Famous

Greyson Chance's video of him singing Lady Gaga's "Paparazzi" was put on YouTube on April 28, 2010. For almost two weeks, not many people watched it. Then, on May 10, 2010, some social websites shared the video.

The next morning, it was shared on ryanseacrest.com. Other big websites like The Huffington Post and Yahoo! Music also shared it. Soon after, famous people like Ryan Seacrest and Ellen DeGeneres shared the video on their Twitter accounts.

Ellen DeGeneres first saw the video because Greyson's brother, Tanner, told her show about it. When Ellen first saw it, the video had about 10,000 views. On May 11, Yahoo! Music reported that the video had over 36,000 views. They also said he was invited to perform on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

Greyson went to Los Angeles to film his interview and performance of "Paparazzi." During the interview, he even got a phone call from Lady Gaga herself! He said she was his "true inspiration." On May 13, Greyson's appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show was shown on TV.

Greyson's First Record Deal

On May 15, Greyson made official pages on Myspace and Twitter. He appeared on Ellen again on May 26, 2010. There, he sang his original song "Broken Hearts." He also won $10,000 and a new Yamaha piano.

Ellen DeGeneres then announced that Greyson was the first artist to sign with her new record label, eleveneleven. She named her label "eleveneleven" because she first saw Greyson's video on May 11, 2010. Also, 11 was Greyson's soccer jersey number.
