Childhood and Education
Maimouna Youssef was born in Baltimore, a city in Maryland. When she was about ten years old, her family moved to Philadelphia. Her parents were involved in theater and taught her many things at home. They taught her how to perform for an audience and how to use a microphone.
When she was a teenager, Maimouna attended the Duke Ellington School of the Arts. She graduated from this special arts school in 2002. After that, she went to the New York Film Academy. However, she decided to leave the academy before finishing her studies. She then moved back to Baltimore and lived with her aunt.
