The Maireana aphylla, often called cotton bush or leafless bluebush, is a special kind of shrub. It has very few leaves, or sometimes none at all! This plant is endemic to Australia, which means it grows naturally only in Australia and nowhere else in the world.
Discovering the Cotton Bush
The cotton bush usually grows into a rounded shape. It can reach about 1.5 meters (around 5 feet) tall. Its unique look helps it survive in the dry Australian environment.
Where Does it Grow?
You can find the cotton bush across most of mainland Australia. It grows in every state and territory except for the Australian Capital Territory. This wide distribution shows how tough and adaptable this plant is to different conditions.
