The Maikathari (also called Mayi-Thakurti) were an Aboriginal Australian people. They lived in the state of Queensland, Australia. They are one of the many unique Aboriginal groups who have lived on the Australian continent for thousands of years.

Traditional Lands of the Maikathari

The Maikathari people had a large area of traditional land. It covered about 3,400 square miles (8,800 square kilometers). This area stretched from the Williams River to the town of Cloncurry.

Their land went north to Canobie on the Cloncurry River. To the east, it reached where Julia Creek joins the Cloncurry River. It also included an area near Mount Fort Bowen. The Maikathari people also lived around a place called Dalgonally. These places are all in Queensland.
