Makahu is a small community located in the Taranaki area of New Zealand's North Island. It sits inland, southeast of a place called Strathmore. The Makahu Stream flows south through the area. It joins the Mangaehu Stream, which then flows into the Patea River.
The name "Makahu" has a special meaning. It comes from the Māori language and means "White Hawk."
