Makobo Modjadji VI (born Makobo Caroline Modjadji, 1978 – 12 June 2005) was a special leader. She was the sixth Rain Queen of the Balobedu tribe in South Africa. Many believed she could control the weather, like clouds and rivers.
Makobo became Queen on April 16, 2003, when she was 25 years old. She took over after her grandmother, Queen Mokope Modjadji, passed away. This made Makobo the youngest Rain Queen ever in the history of the Balobedu tribe. People are still discussing who will be the next leader. Some think her son might become the first Rain King in 200 years.

Life of Queen Makobo
Makobo was the daughter of Princess Maria Modjadji. She was the only Rain Queen who went to school and received a formal education. She became Rain Queen in 2003. This was two years after her grandmother, Rain Queen Mokope, died.
Makobo's mother, who was supposed to be the next Queen, had passed away very young. So, Makobo was chosen to be the next Rain Queen. On the day she was crowned, a light rain fell. This was seen as a very good sign for her reign. The crowning ceremony was a big event. However, some people believe Makobo was not fully ready to accept the crown.
Modern Queen, Old Traditions
Even though Makobo was respected for her family and abilities, some thought she was too modern. This might be why there was a delay before she was crowned. Old traditions said that Rain Queens should live a quiet life. They were expected to stay hidden in the royal village with the "royal wives."
But Makobo Modjadji liked to live differently. She enjoyed wearing jeans and T-shirts. She also liked visiting discos and watching TV shows. She would chat on her cell phone, which was new for a Rain Queen.
Queen Makobo was loved by her people in Bolobedu. Many chiefs and communities supported her. These included Khosi Sekgopo, Maimaila Kolobetuna, and Mamaila Mphodwhane.
Queen Makobo's Passing
On June 10, 2005, Makobo was taken to the Polokwane Medi-Clinic. She passed away two days later, on June 12, at the age of 27.
Discussions About Her Death
There were many discussions about why the young Rain Queen died. Some villagers believed she died from sadness. This was because her partner, David Mogale, was not allowed in the Royal Village. Mogale himself suggested that some people might have caused her death. He thought they saw her as not fit to be the Rain Queen.
Before her funeral, a fire started in the chief's house. This was where Makobo's coffin was being kept. The fire was put out quickly, and the coffin was not harmed. But this event made people wonder even more about the circumstances of her death.
Officially, Makobo Modjadji VI died from a serious illness called chronic meningitis.
