The Malayalam Wikipedia (Malayalam: മലയാളം വിക്കിപീഡിയ) is a special online encyclopedia. It is written in the Malayalam language. Like the main Wikipedia, it is free to use and anyone can help write it. This project started on December 21, 2002. It has become a very important Wikipedia for languages in South East Asia. By July 2013, it had over 31,000 articles!
How it Started
The Malayalam Wikipedia first appeared online on December 21, 2002. A user named Vinod Menon M. P. began the work. He was a very important person for the project for the first two years. Most of the early people who wrote for Malayalam Wikipedia were Malayalees. These are people who speak the Malayalam language.
Early Challenges
The Wikipedia grew slowly at first. This was because of some technical problems. People had trouble with web browsers and fonts. These issues made it hard for many to read or write articles.
