Malcolm Turner is a sports leader who has worked in important roles in athletics. He was the Athletic Director at Vanderbilt University. Before that, he was the president of the NBA G League, which is like a development league for the NBA.

Early Life and Education
Malcolm Turner went to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He was a special student there, called a Morehead-Cain Scholar. He studied business and was even considered for a Rhodes Scholarship, which is a very high honor.
Later, he earned two advanced degrees from Harvard University: a law degree (J.D.) and a business degree (M.B.A.).
Career in Sports Management
Turner has a background in law and business. He worked at a company called Wasserman Media Group. There, he helped manage the golf division. He also helped create and lead a part of the company that advised big brands on sports and entertainment.
Leading the NBA G League
On October 31, 2014, Malcolm Turner became the president of the NBA Development League. This league is now known as the NBA G League. It helps players develop their skills to play in the NBA.
Under his leadership, the league grew a lot. It went from 14 teams to 27 teams by the 2018–19 season. Also, a company called Gatorade became a main sponsor. Because of this, the league changed its name to the NBA G League in 2017.
Athletic Director at Vanderbilt
On February 1, 2019, Turner took on a new role. He became the Athletic Director at Vanderbilt University. This means he was in charge of all the sports programs at the university. He held this position until February 4, 2020.
Awards and Recognitions
While at the University of North Carolina, Malcolm Turner received the Ernest L. Mackie Chancellor’s Award. This award recognized his strong character, good grades, and leadership skills. In 2007, he was also named one of SportsBusiness Journal’s “Forty Under 40.” This honor highlights successful young professionals in the sports business world.
Personal Life
Malcolm Turner has also given his time to help others. He served on advisory boards for organizations like Teach for America. He also helped guide the UNC Kenan–Flagler Business School and the Morehead-Cain Scholarship Fund.
