Malik Samory Hairston (born February 23, 1987) is an American former professional basketball player. He played as a shooting guard and small forward. Malik was born in Detroit, Michigan.
He was chosen in the 2008 NBA draft by the Phoenix Suns. They then traded him to the San Antonio Spurs. Hairston also played for teams like the Austin Toros, Montepaschi Siena, Olimpia Milano, and Galatasaray.

Malik's Early Basketball Days
High School Success
Before joining the University of Oregon, Malik Hairston went to Renaissance High School in Detroit, Michigan. He played basketball there with other talented players. Malik helped his high school team achieve an amazing 27 wins and no losses.
They also won the Class B state title and were ranked No. 3 nationally by USA Today. Malik was considered one of the top 10 recruits in the country. He even played in the 2004 McDonald's All-America game, which features the best high school players.
College Career at Oregon
Malik Hairston was a key player for the Oregon Ducks from his first year. He and his teammates, Maarty Leunen and Bryce Taylor, were among only eleven players in Oregon's history to score over 1,000 points by their junior year.
Even though injuries slowed him down in 2006–2007, Malik helped the Ducks reach the Elite Eight in the 2007 NCAA Division I tournament. He scored a career-high 29 points twice during his college career. He also grabbed 12 rebounds in two different games.
Malik's Professional Basketball Journey
Starting in the NBA with the Spurs
In the 2008 NBA draft, Malik Hairston was picked by the Phoenix Suns. Soon after, he was traded to the San Antonio Spurs. He played for the Spurs and their development league team, the Austin Toros.
Playing in Italy: Montepaschi Siena
On July 29, 2010, Malik signed with Montepaschi Siena, a top team in Italy. He helped Montepaschi Siena reach the Final Four of the EuroLeague playoffs. This was a big achievement for the team, as they hadn't done it in four years.
Malik was named the Sportingbet MVP twice in one playoff series, which was a first for any player. After a successful first season in Italy, Malik left Montepaschi Siena to join Olimpia Milano.
Time with Olimpia Milano
Malik Hairston signed with Olimpia Milano on July 25, 2011. He played well in his first season, averaging many points per game in both the EuroLeague and the Italian league.
He then signed a new two-year contract with Olimpia Milano. In his second season, he continued to play an important role for the team in the EuroLeague.
Moving to Other European Teams
After his time in Italy, Malik Hairston continued his career in other European leagues.
- In November 2013, he joined Galatasaray in Turkey.
- On January 15, 2015, he signed with AEK Athens in Greece. He extended his contract for two more years but had to leave due to medical reasons.
- On January 2, 2017, Malik signed with Hapoel Jerusalem in Israel.
