Malik Samory Hairston (born February 23, 1987) is an American former professional basketball player. He played as a shooting guard and small forward. Malik was born in Detroit, Michigan.

He played college basketball for the University of Oregon's Ducks. After college, he was picked in the 2008 NBA draft by the Phoenix Suns. They then traded him to the San Antonio Spurs. Malik also played for other teams like the Austin Toros, Montepaschi Siena, Olimpia Milano, and Galatasaray.

High School Basketball Journey

Before joining the University of Oregon, Malik Hairston went to Renaissance High School in Detroit. He played alongside other talented players like Joe Crawford.

Malik helped his high school team achieve an amazing 27–0 record. They won the Class B state title and were ranked No. 3 nationally by USA Today. He was considered one of the top 10 recruits in the country. He also played in the 2004 McDonald's All-America game, which features the best high school players.

College Career Highlights

Malik Hairston was a key player for the Oregon Ducks from his first year. He, along with teammates Maarty Leunen and Bryce Taylor, scored over 1,000 points in their college careers. This is a big achievement for Oregon players.

Even though injuries slowed him down in 2006–2007, Malik helped the Ducks reach the Elite Eight in the 2007 NCAA Division I tournament. He scored a career-high 29 points twice during his college years. He also grabbed 12 rebounds in two different games. Malik finished his college career with 22 points and 7 rebounds in his final game for the Ducks.

Professional Basketball Career

Playing for the San Antonio Spurs

Malik Hairston was drafted as the 48th overall pick in the 2008 NBA draft by the Phoenix Suns. Soon after, he was traded to the San Antonio Spurs. He didn't make the Spurs' main roster at first but was re-signed later that year.

He played for the Spurs for two seasons. In July 2010, he left the team.

Time with Montepaschi Siena

On July 29, 2010, Malik signed with Montepaschi Siena, a top team in Italy. He had surgery for a hernia early on, which made him miss three weeks.

Despite the injury, Malik played very well for Montepaschi. He helped them reach the Final Four of the EuroLeague playoffs. He was even named the Sportingbet MVP twice in a playoff series, which was a first! Montepaschi finished third in the tournament. After a great season in Italy, Malik moved to another team, Olimpia Milano.

Playing for Olimpia Milano

Malik Hairston joined Olimpia Milano on July 25, 2011. In his first season, he averaged 13.9 points per game in the EuroLeague. He signed a new two-year contract with the team.

In his second season, he continued to play well, averaging 11.4 points per game in the EuroLeague. However, in July 2013, the team announced that Malik was free to leave.

Moving to Galatasaray

In November 2013, Malik Hairston signed with Galatasaray in Turkey. He played with them until the end of that season.

Joining AEK Athens

On January 15, 2015, Malik signed with AEK Athens in the Greek Basket League. He extended his contract for two more years in July 2015. However, his contract was ended in August 2016 because he did not pass his medical exams.

Playing for Hapoel Jerusalem

On January 2, 2017, Malik Hairston signed with the Israeli team Hapoel Jerusalem. He played with them for the rest of that season.

Final Team: Fos Provence Basket

After not playing for a season due to an injury, Malik Hairston signed with the French club Fos Provence Basket on August 9, 2018. He played there until 2019, when he ended his professional career.
