A Brief History of Tea
Tea first started being made in China around 1650. For smart people in China, drinking tea was one of the seven most important things they did every day.
About 200 years later, in 1849, tea production began in the subcontinent right here in Sylhet. Soon, both British people and Bangladeshis started loving tea. The very first place where tea was grown in the subcontinent was the Malnicherra tea garden in Sylhet.
Over the years, many different owners have managed Malnicherra. These included English, Pakistani, and Bangladeshi business people. Since 1988, it has been privately owned.
