A Look Back: The Story of Malone

Malone has an interesting past! It wasn't always called Malone. Originally, this community was named Ramessa.

Something big happened that changed its name: a fire! After the fire, the local railroad station had to be moved. When it was rebuilt, the community was renamed Malone. This new name came from Malone, New York, a town far away.

A post office was first set up in Ramessa in 1857. When the name changed, the post office was also renamed Malone in 1867. However, the post office eventually closed down in 1922.

The number of people living in Malone has changed over the years. In 1902, there were 57 residents. By 1925, the population grew slightly to 67 people. But by 1940, the population had become much smaller, with only 15 residents.
