Mambéré-Kadéï is one of the 16 main regions, called prefectures, in the Central African Republic. Think of a prefecture like a state or province in other countries. Its most important city, or capital, is Berbérati.
This area used to be known by a different name. Until 1992, it was called Haute-Sangha.

A Look Back in Time
The name of this region changed in 1992. Before that, it was known as Haute-Sangha. Governments sometimes change names to reflect new ideas or to honor different parts of their history.
