Manada Hill is a small community located in East Hanover Township, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania, United States. It is an unincorporated community, which means it's a place with a shared identity but no local government of its own. It sits right next to a place called Skyline View.

Manada Hill is bordered by Interstate 81 to the east. You can find it along Route 39 where it meets Jonestown Road to the north. Manada View Drive is to the south, and Manada Creek is to the east.

History of Manada Hill

Manada Hill is a historic village. It got its name because it sits on a hilltop. It's also very close to a bend in the Manada Creek.

Early Village Life

For a long time, Manada Hill was the most important village in its area. It had a post office, which was very important for sending and receiving mail. There were also several stores and shops. These shops provided everything people needed in the surrounding neighborhoods. Before these stores were common, traveling sellers called peddlers would bring goods to people's homes.

Community Churches

Three churches were built around the Manada Hill community. One was a small Lutheran church. To the southeast, a group called the German Baptists built a church. This church was later taken over in 1860 by the Hanoverdale Church of the Brethren. To the northeast, another church called the Zion Lutheran Church was built.

Modern Changes

Starting in the 1970s, and even more in the early 2000s, Manada Hill began to change. Many of the old shops, homes, and other buildings from the 1700s and 1800s were taken down. This happened to make way for new businesses along Interstate 81.

As of 2015, only a few buildings remain that show the village's long history. One is the United Brethren Church, which was built around the turn of the 20th century. Another is a two-story building that now operates as a pizza shop.
