Mansooreh Hosseini (born September 1, 1926 – died June 13, 2012) was an important Iranian artist. She was known for her modern art.
Life of Mansooreh Hosseini
Mansooreh Hosseini showed a talent for drawing when she was very young. Her father hired a painting teacher to help her develop her skills. She later studied at the University of Tehran. She graduated from the Faculty of Fine Arts in 1949.
In the early 1950s, Mansooreh moved to Italy. There, she continued her art education at the Academy of Fine Arts, Rome. She showed her art for the first time at a big art show called the 28th Venice Biennial in 1956.
After some success in Italy, Mansooreh returned to Iran in 1959. She won several awards at the Tehran Painting Biennial. In 2004, her art was shown at the Tehran Museum of Contemporary Art.
Art Styles and Techniques
Mansooreh Hosseini created art in two main styles. These were figurative and abstract art. Figurative art shows things that look real, like people or objects. Abstract art uses shapes, colors, and lines that don't look like real things.
Her artworks often included parts of Kufic script. This is an old style of Arabic calligraphy. Mansooreh was known for mixing traditional Persian ideas with modern European art styles. She was seen as an artist who liked to try new things. She was also a permanent member of Iran's Academy of Arts.
Mansooreh as a Writer
Besides painting, Mansooreh Hosseini also wrote about art. She wrote many art reviews for different Iranian newspapers and magazines. Her writings were fair, full of information, and very thoughtful. She would analyze art and share her opinions clearly.
Death
Mansooreh Hosseini passed away on June 13, 2012. Her body was found by her neighbors 15 days later, on June 28, 2012. She was 86 years old when she died. Earlier in 2012, she had been in the hospital because of heart problems and her age.
