Manuel Espino Barrientos (born on November 29, 1959) is a Mexican politician. He is part of the Movimiento Ciudadano political party. He has served as a federal deputy, which means he was a representative in Mexico's main law-making body. He was a federal deputy in two different periods. From 2005 to 2007, he was the national president of the PAN.

Manuel Espino Barrientos: A Political Journey
Early Life and Education
Manuel Espino was born in Durango, Durango. In 1979, he finished his studies as an electrical technician. A year before that, in 1978, he joined the PAN. This was the start of his long career in politics.
He also worked as a teacher for middle and high school students. This was in Durango and Ciudad Juárez between 1978 and 1985. He also managed a company that handled accounting.
Starting in Politics
Manuel Espino became very active in the PAN party. He often represented the party in elections. He was also a Scout and taught business training courses.
In 1987, he earned a degree in business administration. This was from the Universidad del Noroeste. After that, he worked briefly at Honeywell Optoelectronics.
His political work continued in Ciudad Juárez and Chihuahua. He held several important roles within the PAN party. He was a secretary for a group called Civil Resistance. He also served as a general secretary at the city level. Later, he became the interim president of the PAN in Ciudad Juárez. He was also a state councilor.
Moving to Sonora and National Roles
In 1996, Espino became the leader of the PAN party in Sonora. He was part of its state executive council for several years. He also worked as the city's financial controller in Hermosillo from 1998 to 2000.
In 2000, he returned to the Chamber of Deputies. This was for the LVIII Legislature. He led a special committee on public safety. He also served on the Energy Committee. During this time, he helped coordinate travel for President Vicente Fox. He was also a national councilor for the PAN. From 2002 to 2005, he was the general secretary of the national PAN organization.
Leading the PAN Party
In 2005, Manuel Espino became the 18th president of the National Action Party. He held this important position for two years. In 2006, he was also chosen to lead the Christian Democrat Organization of America. He held this international role until 2010. He was also a vice president for Centrist Democrat International.
During his time as PAN president, he had some disagreements. He did not agree with the security plans of the federal government. He called it "one of the bloodiest" strategies. His time as president ended in 2007.
Leaving the PAN and New Beginnings
In 2010, Manuel Espino started a new political group. It was called the Movimiento Nacional Volver a Empezar (National Start Over Movement). That same year, the PAN party decided to remove him. He was officially expelled from the party in May 2011. This happened after he had been a member for 33 years.
He also continued his business activities. In 2010, he opened a restaurant in Durango. He also owned a parking facility.
Joining Movimiento Ciudadano
In 2013, Espino started another political group called Concertación Mexicana. This group included other politicians who had left their former parties. While it aimed to be a new kind of party, it faced challenges.
On December 6, 2014, Manuel Espino officially joined the Movimiento Ciudadano political party. The next year, Movimiento Ciudadano chose him to be a federal deputy again. He won a seat in the Chamber of Deputies for the LXIII Legislature. He now serves as a secretary on committees for National Defense and Public Security. He is also on the Commission for the Strengthening of Federalism.
