Early Studies and Teachers

Manuel Galduf began his musical education at the Valencia Conservatory of Music. There, he studied many instruments, including violin, piano, and oboe. He also learned about musical composition and how to direct an orchestra. One of his important teachers was the Spanish composer Manuel Palau.

After his studies in Valencia, Manuel Galduf continued to learn from famous conductors. He studied with Volker Wangenheim, a German conductor, and Igor Markevitch, a Ukrainian conductor. Manuel Galduf and Markevitch had a very close professional relationship. Markevitch even considered Galduf his favorite student in the early 1960s.

A Busy Career as a Conductor

For a time, Manuel Galduf was a military music director. He did this until 1980. At the same time, he was also busy conducting many famous orchestras all over the world. He was also a professor, teaching orchestra direction at the Seville Conservatory.

Eventually, he decided to leave the army to focus completely on his career as a musical director. He has led many well-known orchestras, such as the Nationale de France, the English Chamber Orchestra, and the Hungarian Philharmonic. He also conducted the National Orchestra of Venezuela and the Dresdner Philharmonie.

From 1983 to 1997, Manuel Galduf was the main conductor of the Valencia Orchestra. He has also conducted most of the major Spanish symphony orchestras. He is especially known for performing new pieces by many Spanish composers for the very first time.

Teaching and Inspiring Young Musicians

Manuel Galduf was a professor of Orchestral Conducting at the Valencia Conservatory until 2012, when he retired. Many of his students have become successful conductors and composers themselves. Two examples are Cesar Cano, a Spanish musical composer, and Pilar Vaño, an orchestra conductor.

Since 1999, Manuel Galduf has been the main director of the Youth Orchestra of Valencia. In this role, he does a wonderful job finding and guiding talented young musicians.
