Early Life and Education
Manuel Sánchez Ayuso studied Law at the University of Valencia. After that, he earned a special degree called a Doctorate in Economics. He got this from the University of Madrid.
A Career in Economics
Starting in 1970, Manuel Sánchez Ayuso became a professor. He taught Political Economy at the University of Bilbao. Later, from 1972, he taught at the University of Valencia. He also used his skills as an economist for the Bank of Spain.
Starting in Politics
Manuel Sánchez Ayuso first became involved in politics with the Popular Socialist Party (PSP). He was part of their national leadership team.
First Democratic Election
In 1977, Spain held its first democratic elections. This was after the death of Francisco Franco, who had ruled the country for many years. Manuel Sánchez Ayuso ran for a seat in the Spanish Congress. He led the PSP's list of candidates in Valencia Province. He was successfully elected to Congress.
A Role in Government
From April 1978 to June 1979, Manuel Sánchez Ayuso served as a minister. He was the Minister for Health and Social Security. This role was in the regional government of the Valencian Community.
Joining the PSOE
In 1978, the PSP party joined with the Spanish Socialist Workers' Party (PSOE). Manuel Sánchez Ayuso continued his political career with the PSOE. In the 1979 General Election, he kept his seat in Valencia Province. Within the PSOE, he was seen as a leader of a group called the Socialist Left.
Final Years
For the 1982 General Election, he was again a candidate for the PSOE. He was elected for the third time. Sadly, he passed away just 11 days after the election. He died before he could officially start his new term as a deputy. His death was due to heart problems.
