Maple Valley, Indiana facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Maple Valley is a small place in Henry County, Indiana, in the United States. It is known as an unincorporated community. This means it is a group of homes and businesses that does not have its own official local government, like a city or town. Instead, it is managed as part of the larger county.

History

Maple Valley has an interesting past. It was first known as Elizabeth City. In 1838, the area was "platted." This means someone drew a map showing how the land would be divided into streets and building lots.

Later, in 1878, a post office was opened there. But there was a problem! Another place in Indiana already had a post office named Elizabeth City. To avoid confusion, the people decided to change the name. They chose "Maple Valley." The post office in Maple Valley stayed open for some years but closed down in 1903.
