Palacio de Maqua - 2
Maqua Palace

The Maqua Palace (Palacio de Maqua) is a beautiful old building located in the town of Aviles, which is in the region of Asturias, Spain. It's a special place with a long history, once home to an important family and now used by the local government.

A Look at Maqua Palace

The Maqua Palace was built a long time ago, between the 1800s and early 1900s. It was made for the Maqua family, who were likely quite important in the area. The palace has three main levels, or floors. One of the most interesting parts of the building is on the top floor, where you can see lovely balconies.

Bringing the Palace Back to Life

Over the years, old buildings can start to show their age. The Maqua Palace was carefully restored between 1983 and 1997. This means people worked hard to fix it up and make it look new again, while keeping its original style. Because of its history and beauty, the palace was officially recognized as a "culturally important monument" on October 3, 1991. This title helps protect it for future generations.

Later, in 2006, the front of the palace (called the façade) was also repaired and updated. After this work, the palace started being used for something new: it became offices for the local government. This means a historic building is still a busy and important part of the community today.
