María Auxiliadora Delgado San Martín (born March 11, 1937 – died July 31, 2019) was an important woman from Uruguay. She worked for the government and was very active in health projects. She was also the wife of Tabaré Vázquez, who was the President of Uruguay. This made her the First Lady of Uruguay during his two terms: from 2005 to 2010, and again from 2015 until she passed away in 2019.
Early Life and Marriage
María Auxiliadora Delgado was born in Montevideo, Uruguay. She met her future husband, Tabaré Vázquez, when she was 19 years old and he was 16. They later married in 1968.
Career and Public Role
Before becoming First Lady, María Auxiliadora worked for a long time. She was a civil servant at the Caja de Jubilaciones y Pensiones, which is a pension fund. She worked there for 32 years before she retired.
As First Lady, she supported many health-related activities. She was known for her work in public health and helping people.
Passing Away
María Auxiliadora Delgado passed away on July 31, 2019, in Montevideo. She was 82 years old. Her death was caused by a heart attack.
