María Luisa Artecona de Thompson (born July 12, 1919 – died December 10, 2003) was a famous Paraguayan writer. She wrote many poems and plays. María Luisa was especially known for her amazing books for children. She even created a special collection of writings for young people in Paraguay.
About Her Life
María Luisa Artecona de Thompson was born in a town called Guarambaré in 1919. Her parents were Guillermo Artecona and Maria Cardenas. She went to the local Goethe School to learn. Later, she studied at the Universidad Nacional de Asunción.
In 1965, her book Guarambaré won a special award called the Donsel prize. This award recognized how good her writing was and how many books she had already written.
María Luisa was also a professor at Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic University. She taught literature there, sharing her knowledge with many students.
Writing for Young Readers
In 1992, she published a very important book. It was called Anthology of Infantile-Juvenile Literature from Paraguay. An anthology is a collection of different writings. This book helped her become known outside Paraguay as a wonderful writer for children.
In the same year, 1992, she also published three plays about puppets. These plays were El titiritero (The Puppeteer), La hojita de papel (The Little Sheet of Paper), and El vigilante y el ladrón (The Guard and the Robber).
María Luisa also worked as an advisor for the Ministry of Education. She helped with higher education and sharing culture.
She passed away on December 10, 2003, in Asunción.
