María Mariño Carou (1907-1967) was an important Galician writer. She was born in Noia, a town in the A Coruña province of Spain. María is known for her unique style of poetry. She published her most famous book, "Palabra no Tempo," in 1963. Her work is still celebrated today.

María Mariño Carou was born on June 8, 1907. Her family lived on Rúa Cega in Noia. Her father, Xosé Mariño Pais, worked as a shoemaker. María was the fourth of five children in her family.
Early Life and Challenges
Life was not always easy for María's family. They faced financial difficulties. Because of this, María had to leave school early to help her family. She and her sisters often helped with tasks around the house. Her brothers, Emilio and Cándido, found jobs as a mechanic and a carpenter.
On May 31, 1939, María Mariño married Roberto Pose Carballido. She lived a quiet life, but her passion for writing grew.
Her Books
María Mariño is famous for her two poetry books. Her first book, "Palabra no Tempo" (Words in Time), was published in 1963. Many people consider this her best work. It showed her unique voice and deep feelings.
Her second book, "Verba que comenza" (Word that Begins), was published after she passed away in 1990. These two books are a key part of Galician literature.
