Marcel Colomb First Nation facts for kids
The Marcel Colomb First Nation (MCFN) is a group of Indigenous people in Canada. They are also known as Band #328. About 449 people are officially registered as members of this First Nation. Most of them are from the Swampy Cree and Rocky Cree groups.
This community lives near Lynn Lake, Manitoba, Canada. The Marcel Colomb First Nation works closely with the Swampy Cree Tribal Council.
The main land for the MCFN is called the Black Sturgeon Reserve. Some members also call it "Mile 21" or "the Promised Land." This reserve is located on Hughes Lake. It is about 30 kilometers (18 miles) east of Lynn Lake. Currently, 81 members of the First Nation live on this reserve.
The Rocky Cree people living on the Black Sturgeon Falls Reserve have a long history. Their ancestors came from places like Pukatawagan and other areas in the Nickel Belt. These Indigenous groups have lived in the Canadian Shield region for about 10,000 years. They settled there after the large glaciers melted away.
The reserve has important buildings and services for its community. These include a day care centre and a water treatment plant. There are also 14 houses and a band office. More buildings are being planned and built. Ten new family homes are currently being built on the Black Sturgeon Falls Reserve.
Local phone service is available to Lynn Lake and the Black Sturgeon Falls reserve. Some homes also have TV and internet access. Mobile phone services might be available in the wider Lynn Lake area.
