Marcelle Deschênes-Harvey was born on March 2, 1939, in Price, a town near Rimouski, Quebec. She is a Canadian artist who works with many different types of media. Early Life and Learning
Marcelle Deschênes grew up near Rimouski, Quebec. She went to the University of Montreal. There, she earned two degrees between 1963 and 1967. She studied with important teachers like Jean Papineau-Couture and Serge Garant.
After that, she continued her studies in France. She learned from famous people like François Bayle and Guy Reibel. They were part of a group in Paris that researched music. She also learned about sound and video techniques. She studied music analysis and attended the University of Paris.
Her Career in Music
While she was still studying, Marcelle Deschênes started creating many projects. These projects combined different types of art, like sound and visuals.
In 1971, she came back to Canada. She began teaching and researching at Laval University's electronic music studio. She helped set up a library of sounds there. She also created music for several films. In 1979, she started her own studio called Bruit Blanc, which focused on electroacoustic music.
In 1980, Deschênes became a music professor at the University of Montreal. She taught students how to compose electroacoustic music. She also worked with visual artists to create and show multimedia projects. One famous project was OPÉRAaaaAH! in 1983.
Awards and Recognitions
