Marco Denevi (born May 12, 1922 – died December 12, 1998) was a famous writer from Argentina. He wrote many novels and short stories. He was also a lawyer and a journalist.
His stories were very original and deep. They often looked at how people sometimes make mistakes or aren't very good at things. His very first book was a mystery novel called Rosaura a las diez (1955). It won an award and became a bestseller, meaning lots of people bought it! Later, it was translated into English.

Marco Denevi was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina. When he was young, he loved playing the piano and reading books. He finished college in 1939. He later earned his law degree in 1956.
In 1987, he became a member of the Argentine Academy of Letters. This is a special group that honors important writers in Argentina.
His Famous Books
Besides Rosaura a las diez, Marco Denevi wrote many other popular books. Some of his well-known works include Los expedientes (1957), Ceremonia Secreta (1960), El cuarto de la noche (1962), and Falsificaciones (1966).
One of his books, Ceremonia Secreta, was even made into a movie! The film was called Secret Ceremony and came out in 1968. Famous actors like Elizabeth Taylor and Robert Mitchum starred in it.
Marco Denevi really admired another writer named Wilkie Collins. Collins was known for his mystery stories. Denevi's book Ceremonia Secreta is said to be similar to Collins's style.
His Desire to Write Plays
Marco Denevi also wanted to write plays for the theater. He wrote many dramatic pieces. However, he felt he wasn't good enough to write plays for the theater in Spain.
