Marcovia is a municipality in Honduras. It is located in the Choluteca region, right by the Gulf of Fonseca. Marcovia became its own official municipality in 1882.

How Marcovia Got Its Name
Before 1882, Marcovia was known as Pueblo Nuevo. That means "New Town" in Spanish. In 1882, it officially became a municipality. A municipality is like a local government area. The president at that time, Marco Aurelio Soto, renamed it Marcovia. Many of the first people living in Marcovia came from El Salvador.
